What's the correct RPM's should I pop the clutch when racing my 8?

When I bought my 8 it was my first standard car I had. I was a little shaky but now I got it down. Now Racing, I raced 03 Stang GT and he got me by two car lenghts of the start. I popped the clutch at about 2,000 RPM's. What RPM's do you pop your clutch at?

You'll get some wheel hop but you wont spin rubber.. unless you drop the tire pressure in the rear.. then you spin a little.. THEN get wheel hop

Don't POP the clutch -- FEATHER the clutch at about 5k and you will have a very strong launch.

And yes popping clutch at 8k will leave some very nice LONG "street snakes" :D Thinking back of the fond memory of last summer -- may have to do it again -- I need a good excuse to get that MS Flywheel and a high perf clutch.

Hey I'm a complete n00b about manual transmission. All I know is how to move the car. What exactly is feathering the clutch?

letting it out slowly...

whatever you do, dont go to the track to learn to drive a stick. you'll get all nervous at the line and dump it like a std clad girlfriend.

dont worry, youll get a feel for what it is. just do slow street starts and work your way up.

I've never gotten wheel hop when feathering the clutch, at least not with my 245 Falkens.
For quick launches, I would do 4000-4500 feathers, which by the way is letting it out fast but not just dropping your foot off. The tires spin momentarily with the tach staying in the sweet spot.

I don't know WTF "feathering" is but it sounds like it might be the same as "riding the clutch"(by the way people are explaining it) or slipping the clutch while launching. This makes a launch much less stressful on your drivetrain and will ultimately give you the best 60 foot times when done properly.

-Tach the car up at the line
-let the clutch out slowly until you feel it "grab"
-hold the pedal at that exact point
-Xmas tree lights you let the clutch out slowly and simultaneously modulate the throttle to prevent bogging. When done properly you won't get any wheelhop or bogging. Usually results in as good a launch as it gets. Here is what it looks like when you nail a 2.00 (almost 1.9) on factory stock tires and do it right.

-8- dosent know what he his talking about and im not 16 im 18. -8- is white trash with no friends. i am excelent at driving stick. bet i could be u -8-.

what u should do is rev it to 4500 and let ur foot of the clutch dont rip ur foot off. while letting the clutch out try and keep the rpms at 4500 till u have ur foor off the clutch completly. if u let it off to slow u will smell it

well, he's right. Motor Trend pulled a 14.1 with an 8500rpm launch.

but of course, judge ito and many others have fragged trannys launching too hard.

high et's or blow transmissions. ill take the first one.

it means softly letting go of it but still quickly...instead of dropping it...it allows the clutch and gears to sync a bit before you drop it (way less wear and tear on the tranny and allows for a better...controlled start...you drop the clutch without a little feathering and you can damage the whole tranny and you'll really feel like a noob
