Where to buy new Koni SA shocks for an RX-8???

I went online to buy a set from DPE this evening only to find they were going out of business.

What other vendors have competitive prices on new konis?

Thanks.

My co-driver found a vendor on Ebay selling new konis for $580 shipped. Bought a set this evening!

Thanks Shawn.

^I'm not sure I understand...DPE, a forum vendor with a great track record, has them for $580 shipped, but you bought them off of ebay for $580 shipped?

WTF?

I got mine from shox.com, called and did a little negotiating on 2 sets. I actually just sold them for 450 lightly used.

Must have been a Saturday, we know Mike does not have the stamina to bring it on the second day.

Yeah that one day win and a $1 might get you a crappy cup of coffee.

Not true. I was fastest on Sunday at SD

But, you're right...it don't mean shizznit.

Is it time to start a debate on whether the Koni yellows are REALLY the best shocks for our use?

+1 That was all I needed to know when deciding between konis and tokicos. Konis are great and their customer service is 2nd to none. Plus their shocks are quite inexpensive to rebuild.

That is what I hear and the route I was planning on going. However, I keep hearing over and over about all the leaking issues people seem to be having with the Koni's. Is this from keeping them at full stiff on the street or is there a real quality issue?

I heard that as well. Not sure about whether the leaks stem from a manufacturing issue or from extended abuse. Either way, if you buy a new set you'll be covered by konis warranty where they'll send you a replacement and you return the damaged strut after replacing (i.e. no downtime).

For this reason alone I bought a new set - which arrived last night!

So far it seems to be a limited to the fronts. Something to do with the angle they are mounted at and stress around the adjuster. Does not seem to matter if you adjust them or not, I never move mine and I got one leaker after about two years of use. It is not a massive leak, they call it weeping, just a small trace of oil around the adjuster to begin with. After I found my leak I drove 1800 miles to TX, kicked the crap out of the boys there , and drove 1800 miles home on it. Replaced it after two more events and another month, worked fine the whole time. Koni sent me the new part in advance, great service.

I have used konis on nearly everyone of our autox cars. I had a set for 8 years on our Corvette with no issues, until I had them custom valved.

Koni's it shall be, then. The "weeping" seems to be going along with what I have heard from others. I have heard of a couple of people complain about the service thay have gotten, though. Does it matter where you buy them?

Thanks for the input.

Does not matter where you buy them... I got one of the first sets in the U.S. and the fronts and rears were built a few weeks apart. I got the fronts from The TireRack and the rears from shox.com. I did have a service issue with shox in the past on another car and would prefer not to buy from them, but in this case I had to. The TireRack has always been great to deal with.

Thanks. I have always had good experiences with the Tire Rack, as well. I bought a set of Enkies from them and had terrible luck with them galling on me. It took a few calls but they eventually agreed that the issue was with the lug nuts they sent me and they sent me another set at no cost. I will remember that, the next time I buy. I would pay more for that kind of service.
