California duster

When your not using your duster, don't forget to sponge her down with water.
Of course you can use a detailer if you want.
Between the two you very seldom have to wax your car.

I just got one of these. Do you leave it wrapped up in newspaper, or does it have to be wet or anything? I was under the impression that I just leave it in newspaper, but the word "soak" in that quote threw me off.

I'm reasonably sure he meant to write that if not dusting then to spongebath your vehicle's exterior with water or better detailing spray. You don't of course wash the duster - just shake it out.

Well, my car lives outside for one, so it's always collecting particulate. Normally I do it at work because thats just when I can make time to do it. Car is wet with dew in the mornings, and it's getting dark when I get home. Using it daily let's me wash my car once a month instead of every weekend. I need to get a small one for my interior now.

On that note, I have a fun quote:
A writer in 1947 noted, "I don't really care how time is reckoned so long as there is some agreement about it, but I object to being told that I am saving daylight when my reason tells me that I am doing nothing of the kind. I even object to the implication that I am wasting something valuable if I stay in bed after the sun has risen. As an admirer of moonlight I resent the bossy insistence of those who want to reduce my time for enjoying it. At the back of the Daylight Saving scheme I detect the bony, blue-fingered hand of Puritanism, eager to push people into bed earlier, and get them up earlier, to make them healthy, wealthy and wise in spite of themselves." Robertson Davies, The Diary of Samuel Marchbanks, 1947, XIX, Sunday.

DIY:rejuvenate your california duster
sorry to revive an old thread, but just gotta share my steps on hovv i rejuvenated my duster after vvashing it.
i haven't seen anyone re-charge the duster after it goes into the machine...and most people don't even vvash it. but after much more than a hundred use, my duster started clumping from dust and moisture combination. my other duster "fluffed" after vvashing and drying, so this time around, i found a better solution.
-simply use dish detergent
-hang, do not use dryer
-still lightly damp, apply pledge (a multi-surface duster spray) to the duster. spray in even strokes
-hang til only the duster spray remains before next use.
the duster before vvashing left nothing but lines leaving me no choice but to find a solution. since i can't find paraffin vvax in a can, i did anything i could to come close.
the results are satisfactory, and oil streak-free. so an ansvver, for a question that hasn't been asked.
enjoy!

im not too fond of dusters because the material on them and small sand and rock particles stick to them, so u practically rub the car down with its own dirt. just use nice clean micro fiber towel, the type of microfiber towel also maters... towels u get a autozone or kragen are more like terry cloths so those are crap... costco sell a 30 pack for cheap and they work wonders...
