Caring for a car paked outside
Hi guys,
I do not have a garage and I am planning on having my car parked outside... Does anybody else have that problem or am I the only one? If so, what do you do in order to protect the car?
Thank you.

I am forced to park on the street when I am at work 8 hours a day. The best investment I made was a $30 car cover from pepboys. It keeps the dust off, I don't get tickets for no front plate, stops bird$hit, prevents waterspots from lawnsprinklers, no junkmail left on the windshield wiper, keep the casual pedestrian from looking inside and keeps it shiney which is difficult considering mine is black. It's a cheap car cover so I worry about someone stealing it, and it just makes it look like any other car.

I live on a dirt road and a car cover keeps off the dirt that settles as well as denied a few birds thier fun . It is IMPORTANT that you do not put the cover over a dirty car. If there is a light dust over your car you can use one of the dusters that are out there (kozak, california car duster). If there is DIRT then you'll have to wash it or just not put the cover on. Especially with the OEM car cover, it's so tight it'll scratch away at that paint with any dirt under there. If you can avoid any of that then a car cover is your answer:-)

I live and work in the city, park on the street (which i hate, but have to), and have had no problems in my first 9 months. It gets dusty quick, I just have to wash it more often and the California Car Duster helps a lot. Other than that, just wash and wax regularly, and I don't see any reason you should have a problem.

You're not the only one. I park in an uncovered lot next to my office during the day, and park outside on my driveway at night (my wife's car gets the garaged space). The important thing, in my opinion, is to keep the car as clean as possible. Remove any contaminants (bird poop, tree sap, road tar, dead bugs, etc...) as soon as you can. These can ruin your paint finish if you leave them on your car. Keeping a good coat of wax on the car will make these contaminants easier to remove. I use Zaino, and I love it, but many waxes will protect the finish as long apply them regularly.

My 8 got booted from the garage when the GTO arrived, so she's got two covers now... one that's waterproof for rainy weather (about $70 at PepBoys) and another that's lighter-weight and just keeps her clean in dry weather (about $35 at PepBoys). I also have a cable lock which keeps the cover from being removed by thieves or wind. The last essential is a Car Duster in the trunk, to wipe her off before putting the cover back on.
This system is working great so far, and the car is staying remarkably clean. The other plus to using a cover is it keeps the interior much cooler and protects all that black plastic on the dash from direct sunlight.
