How to: clean rust off exhaust pipes

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, and I did a search first.

Use Aluminum foil and water.

Not sure why it works but I tried it with my last car and it worked great, especially after having my car in Buffalo, NY and daily driving thru the winter. It may only work with chrome pipes also. I have NOT tried it with my RX8 yet.....haven't had to.

So you scrape the aluminum foil against the tailpipe? Wouldn't that create a lot of scratching?

^^ My thoughts exactly. There has to be something else. I don't think naval jelly would work, but there has to be something nonabbrasive to use.
