and i use a baby blue micro fiber towel almost exactly like the one posted before. i can dry my whole car with it and it would only feel damp afterwards. its great. got it at autozone.

 

I always do a dry off run first then finish up in the garage with an "Aqua Dry Towel". I've had it for a couple of years. I think I got it at Wal-Mart. It is shamwow like and can be washed. It stays damp and soft in the tube that it came in. I googled it and it appears to be more for swimmers drying off or use at the gym. Anyway, it works great.

Good point. I've never quite trusted it, although I do make sure I rinse it before the rare use.

 

Ha! Many of us live by the California blade. How are you going to get a stone on your car? You just washed it!

Well if you drop it in the process... Then you have to clean it.

Edit: if your really worried about water spots put a cap full of white vinegar into a 1 gallon bucket of water. Then you can air dry.

 

So, apparently I am white trash enough to actually have bought Sham-Wows. Granted, it was more just so I could say I have Sham-Wows and laugh about it, it still makes me feel just a tiny bit dead inside to know I own them.

I bought them in December, so I hadn't had a chance to dry my car with them until recently. They actually work pretty well around the kitchen, they seem to be great for drying your hands.

But when it comes to drying a car, let me say they are 99% SHAM and a mere 1% WOW. In fact, they boast "You'll say 'WOW!' every time you use it!". What they don't tell you is that 'WOW!' is always followed by 'What a sham!'.

I did manage to dry mine and my girlfriend's cars using them, without water spots, but they just seems to spread the water out into a thin layer so it dries quickly and doesn't leave the spots. All in all, VERY unimpressed with them for drying - I will probably pick up an Absorber soon.

 

Mr. Clean system de-ionized rinse [so it doesn't spot and I have plenty of time to ...] Autozone-type Absorber Chamois . I carry a Chamois with me as well.

I did use a leaf blower one time, but the rinse/Chamois has never let me down.

 

I tried the absorber and it left tiny yellow specs all over the car...

I was completely dissatisfied with that thing.

So I rinsed it off again and dried it with some basic microfiber cloths. Works great but takes probly 15 minutes or so to do a good job.

it does the same thing as the sham-MEH.

 

I bought a waffle towel from Autozone yesterday (They didn't have the Meguiars), so hopefully the weather holds and I can try it out today.

Really, don't waste your time with the Sham-Wow. It gets the job done, but I am sure there are better products out there.

Just washed my '8. Mr. Clean wash/de-ionized rinse and an Absorber chamois. Perfect (as always).

 

I use 4 100% cotton terry bath towels, made in the US of A, dedicated specifically for drying the car. Towels are always washed after use. Let's just say my drying towel is more expensive and refined than my personal use bath towels. My wife gives me crap for this on a regular basis.

 

I've got a pile of microfiber towels I use. They get washed after every use.

Never use fabric softener on your drying towels. It ruins them.

 

Washing towels after every use is KEY...
