I apply a thin coat to the entire vehicle, wait 15-20 minutes and then remove.

ducky: are you in a high humidity or cold climate location? If not, no need to wait that long. the ZFX makes it 'dry' faster so waiting that long isn't necessary. I know before ZFX was introduced, people waited hours and hours for it to 'dry' but not the case anymore.

you're RIGHT, this stuff SUCKS!

i have tried zaino more than once... i bought the ultimate zaino kit for like $129 or something like that. personally it was the worst money i have ever spent on my car.

the bottom line is this... if you like a product and it looks good to you, then use it and you will be satisfied. you like your results... then great, you found your product. i said that in my opinion, it is a waste of money for me. i believe that i can attain a superior shine with meguiars products for less money.

i also find the layering thing a bit fishy. you can bring the clarity of your paint only to a certain level. assuming best case scenario, you bring your paint back to 100%.. thats as good as you can do... having 50 layers of zaino, or of any product for that matter will not make your paint look any better than 100%. in fact, adding extra layers can actually take away from your final result. the best example i can think of is having glass panels on top of one another. one or two pieces of glass looks crystal clear, but if you keep adding more and more pieces of glass on top of one another, then it starts to get harder and harder to see through the glass. i may be wrong but this is my understanding of how zaino works - the more layers you add to your paint, the better it will look.

i digress, but back to my original statement that in my situation, its not worth it for me to buy zaino when i can get equal results from a product like nxt.

i know many people disagree, so let me get my flame suit

as for the reflection shots;

as long as you use whatever product the way it was intended to, you can achieve great results. one thing that zaino cannot do is something like this:

That is because Meguiars products usually carry lots of fillers in them to cover up those swirls. Zaino Z5 has SLIGHT filling ability, but not much. None of the other Zaino products have less than Z5 if at all. To get the most out of Zaino, you must polish then use the sealant. When you do that, the results really show.

I think part of the problem is that I'm doing all this on Lightning Yellow, and I can't get the shine of the BB. It looks pretty shiny right now at night, but not glass like.

this could not be more wrong. meguiars uses diminishing abrasives to remove scratches and swirlmarks. that is, that the microscopic cleaning components of the product break down even smaller as you work them in, turning from a cleaning action, which removes swirls, to a polishing action, which restores gloss.

You are right in polishing first, however. any product designed to protect and add shine to the paint, whether its labeled a wax or sealant, will yield greater results when the surface is prepped properly. That is, removing above surface contaminates via claybar, and removing below surface defects, such as scratches, waterspots, bird etchings, oxidation, etc.

My gripe over the cost of zaino is that for the same price as their sealant system or whatever you want to call it, i can remove all imperfections from the paint, protect it, and still have money left over for gas lol.

to get back on track with regards to the OP

if you dont think that your zaino is working, then it is most likely one of two things

1. you may have applied or removed the product in a manner not recommended by the manufacturer (applied too thick, removed too soon)

-or-

2. you did everything right and are just not happy with the results. i would be upset too if i spent all that money for zaino and it looked anything short of amazing. this may be the case for you. if it is, then you should try something else. I have had great success with meguiars product; you may or may not. the fact of the matter is that you have to find something that you like to use and that the finished result looks good to your eye. so keep experimenting until you find the product that is right for you.

on a side note, take a chance, got to walmart and spend $25 and get the ultimate meguiars package. it comes with a bottle of NXT 2.0 as well as some other goodies.

Megs 83 has fillers in it. A good way to tell is to polish with a polish first, then wipe down with IA wipedown. If the swirls show back up, they were filled in rather than removed.

I'm not saying that is a bad thing, but with Zaino, the surface must be completely free of any oils, fillers...etc. That's what I was saying.

And before you you claim that I am wrong, might want to read the labels on various products...not only Meguiars. Look at a bottle of NXT or NXT 2.0, which are synthetic sealants. They contain no abrasives, but yet advertise diminishing the looks of swirls.

How is this done? Fillers.

Almost all companies make products with fillers. Just with Zaino, it doesn't bond well to oils or fillers. THe surface must be perfectly prepped for the bonding to be good.

Thanks... I don't have the equipment that you have so I think Scratch X is for the individuals like myself that can't spend hours doing all the other applications......

Plus my car isn't as bad as your photo so ScratchX does the job for me and NxT finishes it off. Posted pics in the Sticky...
