Yikes, I'd try cleaning it first, then sandpaper or whatever you said. You don't want to smear **** around by sanding it - so remove as much **** with cleaner as possible.

Do you have a Samsung E715 ??

You'll hate me for saying the obvious at that's fine but the best way would be to not smoke in the first place. I have never had a cigarette burn in the car.

And here I use tobacco as my "air freshener"!

Man your whole headliners gotta be completely yellow. No need to tint your windows with all of the residue from doing that in your car!

Here is a little trick from an ex smoker who has put many a burn in a car, not my baby of course but my old cars. First clean it as best you can, don't smear it around, dab. If the fabric melted and there is that hard black platicy looking stuff get a really fine pair of scissors and cut them out, depending on the size you can use nail clippers. Basically anything really fine where you don't have to cut any unnecessary fabric. Once you have it cleaned out and all the fabric is back to its matching colors start looking for extra headliner fabric around the edges. Just start pulling out the fuzz and loose parts until you get a good amount. then this is the tricky part. Using super glue use a small amount and apply to where the burn is and start filling in with the fuzz and scraps you have collected. Take your time and if you do it slowly and maticulously you should hardly be able to tell it was there.

The smoker smell that I don't like is the odor of stale burnt ashes. There's none of that in my car.

I do love the aroma of fresh pipe tobacco. So my otherwise vestigial ashtray and lighter are made useful (useful to me at least).

I've been doing this for many years in all of my RX's.
