ALL the cloth materials in the trunk can be removed. The sides for sure - possibly the bottom - never tried but I think you can.
Remove everything. Its held in place by the plastic clip/screw/rivet (don't know what to call them) things. Once you have it out you should be able to wash (hose) them off and let them dry.
Wipe or wash out the trunk reall good... Let it all dry for like two or three days then put it back together.
That's what I would do.

i once spilled a little gas in the trunk and to remove the smell i took out the carpet all together and washed the sides.(leave in the sun for a few to air dry!)at this time i put in some of that carpet padding(3/8 thick)to help with the heat and extra m/s exhaust volume.
it's real easy just don't be in a hurry..take your time .i used a small flat screw driver to release the push rivets out..(there are two types used)for the second type they make a plastic rivet remover shaped like a V ..this makes it so easy.just cut out a little padding for the floor area and sides and you will notice a great diifference in the temp.inside the trunk unless you like the oven affect!and the bass from your speakers improve also(got two tens pumping!)hope this helps it worked out great for me!!

Fabreeze is just perfume and will keep the area damp! It may cover but it may even make things worse! Leaving trunk open to dry in sunlight will help a little, but this only kills the surface bugs. You may need to replace your trunk firewall padding - it can be ordered from your dealer, as it is very absorbant but it doesn't wash well (It's just compacted fibers). The carpet itself is washable in Woolite, but first do a steam cleaning attempt - these can be rented at most large grocery stores and you can use the enzymes for pet smells. finish with a borax rinse. Get it as dry as you can! Milk is a real rough one because it has fats - which gives it that nice rancid butter - foul cheese scent; and it also had proteins that break down into things like "putracene", and "cadaverene" and ammonia. These are all great food for bacteria which add their own smells, plus milk has enough water to encourage mold in the firewalls - that gives you the dead feet smells and you had shoes along with it to make sure you had plenty of bacteria. If it exploded it probably had some e.Coli bacteria (which help make intestinal waste smell like does) and maybe some closteridia - these are really bad and may be what triggered your friend's vomit reflex.
It could have been worse - did you see the Myth Busters program on the man who died in his car....?

I once spilled a pot of potato soup in my 8's trunk. Being potato, it had somewhat broken up and started slipping into cracks and whatnot...and then fermented. THAT was bad. I asked about replacing the 3 cloth panels but the cost was ridiculous...it's like $200+ for the center part and $100+ for each side panel, so you can pretty much toss that idea out the window. Dosing it with half a bottle of Febreeze and whatnots didn't help at all. Your best bet really is to remove the side panels and take it down to a professional car detailer...I did that, and it took care of the smell.

Give up on the febreeze. Pull all the carpeting out. Mix up some laundry detergent with warm water. Use a brush and scrub the carpet really good and then hose off. If you have a wet/dry vac give it a good vac. Let it sit in the sun to totally dry.

BTW, if you remove all those spare tire tools and the plastic storage box, you'll discover a drain hole at the bottom of the trunk. So to some degree you can get in there with soap and sponge and water hose, as long as you watch out for the two woofers on the trunk ceiling and any wires going to the taillights.

This is from my Spotless cleaning book
Milk cream has protein and fats in it. So you have to get at the protein first. Mix enough detergent with cold water to make a sudsy mix and then apply the suds only to the stain with an old toothbrush. Dry with paper towel. To get the fats out mix detergent with hot water and use the suds only to clean use paper towel to blot dry. Then use carpet cleaner.
The key here as many have said is that Febreeze is only a perfume so it doesn't stop the bacteria growing etc.
Make sure all the carpet and metal is dry before putting it all back together.
Good luck hope you get rid of the smell.
Cheers
