Question Orbital Question

I'm looking into ordering a PC7424, and I'm just wondering about what sort of accessory collection I'm going to need.

The kit I'm looking at already includes a 6 inch white foam w/5-inch counterweight, and a 6-inch velcro w/6-inch weight.

If I want to sue it to put on/buff 3M SMR (dark car formula) and a 3-step wax system (mothers currently), how many pads/bonnets will I need to get total?

Also, what are the relative benefits of MF vs lambs wool bonnets for buffing?

I've tried searching on autopia, but I either get nothing, or an encyclopedia depending on how many keywords....

You will LOVE the PC. The pad kit I just gecieved is the "Sonus Pad Kit. Sonus DAS Pad Kit.
I first ordered the "Lakecounty"Pads from Autopia , they worked good but after 4 uses they started to rip where the pac attches to the backing plate. (I sent them back). Then I odered the Sonus pad kit. WOW are they nice!!!! :D . Here is a picture of before, and after polishing a Freind's Black Grand Prix GT. I used the 1Z Paint Polish using the orange pad. Then switched to the green pad. Then I used the blue pad with 1Z Metallic polish(You dont have to have metallic paint).
Amazing pad and polish!
1Z Polishes
You can get a "Package deal" from Autopia if you buy the PC with the sonus pad kit. Or order the PC from Coastal tools. It's 119.00 I think. When you use the Sonus pad kit you will need to use the 5" counter weight. The 6" counter weight is for use with the "Lake County" pads.

Thanks.

Do you use bonnets/pads for the final buffing or is that a hand job?

The final buffing? If you mean the last polish, I use the blue pad or the black pad to polish then wipe off the residue by hand with a MF towel. For wax application use the black pad and wipe off by hand with a mf towel. For Klasse All In One and Klasse Sealant glaze use the MF bonnet for application and a MF towel by hand for removal.
Hope that is what you are looking for.

OK,

looking at the Sonus set on autopia, it looks like the orange would be the one to use with the 3M SMR, green or blue with the phase 1 (cleaner), then grey/black for both phase 2 (sealer/glaze) and phase 3 (liquid carnauba)?

Or would I want to use the MF bonnet for phase 2?

Also, could I do the removal with a MF bonnet instead of by hand? (any pros/cons one way vs the other?)

Lastly, does the Sonus kit include 1 or 2 MF bonnets? There are 2 in the photo, but that may be just to show both sides.

thanks for all the help

The cool thing about detailing is there is no "Set rules" You can try different pads with different products to see what works.
BUT you are correct on the pad choice with the 3m with orange,blue/green with ALL IN One. BUT I would apply the Sealant Glaze with the bonnet. My Kit came with two bonnets. I'm not sure if that was a mistake? Or if they all come with two bonnets now.

Thanks for all the help. I just picked up a 7336 at Lowes ($109 is the best price I've seen anywhere, and with the Sonus kit it looks like I won't really need the extras that the coastaltool special includes), and ordered the Sonus set.

One last question if it's not too much trouble. Is the white pad that comes with the polisher really good for much? (maybe what I really mean is, is it good enough for my '8... )
