Question questions on dust and brake dust

First question for all - I work at a building where there is a viaduct that runs over the parking lot, and a gravel lot across the street. So as you can imagine no matter how well I wash my car the first day back to work I come out to find my 8 covered in a layer of dust Short from bringing a car cover to work, is there a product out there for cars that is similar to pledge for furniture that repels dust?

Second question- brake dust! There is 3k on my car and now there is a notorious brake squeel. If I let my car sit for more than a day outside without driving it the rotors look like they are rusted. I also noticed brand new mazdas and a used 8 on the lot that had the same look. I wanted to know what you all use to clean your rotors to keep the brake dust from building up and is there anything that can keep that rust look from happening? Thanks Everyone, this forum has man helpful suggestions on keeping our cars looking as good as they can, and if you are like me, nothing is more rewarding than getting that compliment from complete strangers on how great your car looks!

A1: Unfortunately you chose to buy a black car, it's the worst colour to try and keep clean. Dust shows up quite easy on it.

A2: The rusty look on the brake rotor is normal, the rotor is bare metal so if its exposed to moisture, it will develop surface rust.

I have a black 8 too. Tell you what - a clean black 8 looks better than a show room shine winning blue

A1: Get a microfibre cloth that aims to get rid of dust. A quick way to get rid of dust straight after a wash or after a short run to the local deli. For best result, get a spray on detailer to use with the mircofibre. If too much dirt seen in the microfibre - STOP! You need a wash.
Don't do this if you have been on the gravel parking lot though - too much dust I think.

There are though some polish attract dust. I tried a hard polish protectant - like extra gloss from Autoglym (www.autoglym.com). They add an extra layer on the polish so I guess they decrease the static on the well polished surface. It is not perfect but much much better. If you don't have that in your area, you can wash the car again after wax and use spray on wax (like quick detailer from Meguire).

A2: Brake squeal is normal for me - think it is a race brake . PoLak has a thread in the DIY forum to cure this - do a search. Not sure of his long term result. Brake dust is ok to have, some people claimed to use wheel polish (or even just use normal car polish) on wheels. But I found this not preventing dust gathering - just easier to host off.

5 seconds is enough!

If you have a microfibre, you can sit in the garage and keep wiping it clean. It is fun excercise - you can loose weight too! :D

Black, when clean, rocks the world. Winning blue, in sunshine, is also a...mazi...ngly stunning. Therefore, there are required conditions to shine the beauty on your car. As for the yellow 8s, they certainly look the best behind their garage doors :D

We should all agree to disagree on colours.

Bet on Black, I've read that rustry rotors can be repainted under warranty. However, those that had their dealer repaint found that after a few months, the rust just comes right back again (guess it's called break pad wear? :p ) I hate the look of rusty rotors..

Read a few posts where they say the rust is only attributed to 8's with M-flash, but can't figure out why that is and no definitive answer....

And silver of course looks best all the time. :D

Rusty brakes are related to M-flash? Man, I never would have figured that one in a million years. If I use the wrong oil, does the bumper fall off?!
