Teflon?

Has anybody added the teflon coating to their Rx-8? I have heard that it helps with ease of cleaning and shine.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

One happy Rx-8 owner.

I did...it's easy to clean and shine but I have nothing else to compare it to.
I wash at least twice a week and is damn easy to get squeaky clean.

Heat it to about 600 F. I assume that would mess up the leather interior, though...:p

I've also applied a Teflon coating to my 8. Someone in my family had an old bottle of Blue Coral Gel Wax laying around (it contains Teflon clearcoat protection), and it made my car very shiny and clean looking. Recommended.

Teflon is such a gimmicky thing, in my opinion. Teflon doesn't last very long on a car. Just because a product says it's Teflon it won't work unless you heat it onto a car. How many of you out there would bake something on your car paint? The properties of Teflon only work at high temps.

I want to bring this thread back to life. I bought a can of teflon wax...any other stories about how it works?

Rasp, I still have that bottle of teflon gel wax--I was staring at the bottle just yesterday wondering if I'll ever use it again--but I haven't touched it since I made my last post on this thread five or six months ago. I think Diamon Jim is right in that Teflon is gimmicky. Still, I used my gel wax when I first bought my 8 and thought it looked pretty good. Of course, I've since converted to NXT and Meg's #16. Also, when I was at Circuit City several months back, I saw this newer model Mercedes in the parking lot shining like crazy. When the owner came out, I asked him what he detailed it with to keep it so shiny (even though you could tell it was a little dirty up close), and he said he took it to a detailer and they used Teflon wax.

Give it a shot and keep us updated. I'd be interested to see before/after pictures after your wash and, as well, 3-4 weeks later.

Okay okay, I'm back... I just perused very quickly on Autopia and found a couple of threads-of-interest for you. The first one starts off about a Teflon wheel cleaner, but there's a few very interesting postings about Dupont/Teflon. The second thread is just about Teflon. There are definitely other threads out there; I just don't have the energy at 5:30am. Zzzz...
