Tinting the Windows
#51
I can't believe you people are paying more than $100 dollars to get your windows tinted! If i was quoted $250, i'd tell them where to shove that tint.
You can do it yourself, it really isn't that hard at all. Buy the tint you want at any local auto store, spray windex on the outside of the window, place tint over window and cut to size. Then, spray a healthy dose of windex on the inside of the window after you make your cut, remove the back to expose the glue side of tint, put tint on glass and squegee off excess windex. Done

Around here in Boston, the cheapest price I could find was $150 and that's what I paid. That's more like a promo price at a new shop. Other shops charge anywhere from $230-$280. If you want a real tint job for $100, they'll probably tint the windows on one side for you. If you want them to tint the whole car for that amount, they'll laugh and ask you to leave their shop pronto. Last but not least, the back window on the 8 is a PITA to tint in one nice piece.

Did you say Windex?!? Windex is a on tints. If you spray Windex on your tint, it's gonna turn purple sooner or later. You'll then have a ghettoed/riced 8.

I've honestly never paid over $100 to tint any vehicle i've ever owned. I just hate to see people getting the shaft on something like that. I know what they should be charging and that's what it should be.

I have observed that usually the tinted rear window has to be redone for some reason. If you plan on getting you windows tinted make sure the shop has a warranty.

I havent had any problems with the cops so far with my tinting. Ive been pulled over a few times just cuz my car is sporty looking but no tickets at all. i got 5% on the back 3 windows and 25% on the front doors. Looks nice and i like it. I paid $146 for mine total.

can't go wrong spending $100-150 on not only a quality job, but also a good quality tint.
this definitely isn't like its something i can't do myself.... but if you bought the tint and messed up, buying another roll of tint just equals the same price of getting it done.
so why bother if you know of a quality place that carries a reputable brand and type tint and backs their work with a lifetime warranty?
now paying $250 is something i can't believe they charge... i paid $130 and its for a UV protection type semi-metallic finish tint. been going to this shop more than 10 yrs ago ever since high school, so they know what they're doing.

It's just Dawn soap and water nothing magic...
can't remember exactly what it was but that's what it looked like when he sprayed the window with it. kind of has a soapy feel so you can move the tint around once you remove the back to expose the glue. its what the guy at the tint shop was using. looked like windex so that's what i assumed. yes, i did end up having to use 2 sheets on the back. just couldn't make one work.
