instead of running the risk of submitting too-vague of a question, or else using the wrong terminology, i thought this would be easier

what would you guys recommend i use on these indicated parts of my car? i just ordered 303 Aerospace Protectant- i am guessing i can use that on most of the parts, perhaps not the black indicated by #1... so what should i use on that?

the 303 says it's for vinyl and rubber and plastic, and comes with a lot of UV protection.

I use the 303 on all the external components you displayed, as well as the dash. Looks great & lasts a long time.

Rxeightr: I would think the 303 would wash off since it's supposed to be used for interior plastic/vinyl.

#1: I've asked about the b-pillar before (see https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-show-shine-26/b-pillars-how-clean-them-42499/ ). I don't think I got a consensus answer, although I think hitting it with a Quick Detailer is a great idea.

#2: Not sure--I've never detailed the rubber trim!

#3: Many people use Mother's Back-to-Black. Personally, I use the clear liquid tire dressing stuff (Black Magic, etc.). It works very well on the rear under grill, on the mirrors, and in the front. Little tidbit: If you dress this plastic trim first before you wax the paint, it's a lot easier to take care of that excess wax that gets on the black plastic.

 

I second the aerospace 303. It works great on the exterior plastic and rubber, tires too!

Nope, doesnt. Ive yet to try back to black (even though I have a bottle of the stuff.. im a bit lazy)

 

To remove white spots I use Dawn and a little water with a soft toothbrush. the apply the 303.

 

I wax #1. No fingerprints with the wax.

I use NXT protectant on 2 and 3.

 

Cam--Do you use NXT? I haven't thus far waxed the b-pillars b/c I was afraid that they might chalk up like the black plastic parts do. If you've done it with success, though, I must add that little detail to my regiment.

 

I use Collinite #845 on the b-pillars and on the rear exhaust area of your
diagram. I never have wax-build-up problems on the black pillars...and the
protection is better than 303 (at least in my opinion).

I've also used #915 on the b-pillars, but I like the ease of the liquid #845 as
opposed to the paste #915.

Yes, I use NXT wax, and with no problems.

 

303 says its for leather also. I use the NXT detailer on the door jambs, etc. and back to black on the trim. I use the 303 on the inside trim but if you want a shiny interior trim 303 isn't the right choice. It should help keep the fading away.

still a little confused on the b-pillar (now i know what to call that area at least)...

and, i also realized the sunroof isn't yellow (for some reason i had been thinking it was- my old car, it was the same as the body). but i guess it is tinted plexiglass? sorry for all the questions, but what do you guys use on that?

 

Sorry, I didn't see that you'd posted more questions until just now. Sad how things get lost in the shuffle sometimes...

Anyway, the only thing you really need to clean from the b-pillars (and just a little FYI, the sides of the windshield are the A-pillars ) are fingerprints, so in a jiffy, you can just QD or wet-rag it, wiping off the prints, although that method will not prevent future fingerprints, unlike wax, if what Cam says is true. I'll have to investigate!

As far as the sunroof, right now I am using a foaming window cleaner. If you use something like that, make sure that when you do spray the window, you don't do it during any breeze. Otherwise, you'll get it all over the roof--I know this from experience Since it's a factory tint and not aftermarket, I don't think most any product you use will be harmful to it.

Finally, just as a little tidbit, when you're waxing your car, you might want to 'slide' your sunroof open slightly, so that when you detail the roof, you're much less likely to get wax on the rubber lining of the sunroof.
