The value of an item and what you can afford are not mutually exclusive at all. As far as I'm concerned you won't find a good RWD sports car with 50/50 weight distribution, supercar braking for any less than 17. Hell a new Civic EX costs 19K and a FWD new SI costs 21 and so does any other FWD new econobox.

A lightly used RX8 at 18 is an absolute steal, every other car in the class costs 3-4 grand more used in the same year/condition (350Z, G35, S2000 etc). I would rather pony up a few extra grand and buy a newer lower mileage example but that's just me (I actually bought a new one instead of used)

Ehhh you also left out tho no horse power, stock the vehicle #'s are 198 big whoop that it puts 238 at the flywheel not to mention the torque is shitty the only thing that makes up for it is the light weight of the vehicle itself so when you break it down the average buyer is paying way to much to buy the car new 36thousand or more and you cant deny it. Thus you cant blame the lil guy for holding out for less than 16 and with the economy goin the way it is i would lay bets that I'll pick up an 8 for a steal.

Why are you trying to buy the car if you're already whining about no hp? How much HP do you need anyways? The car does 0-60 in under 6 and has enough acceleration to tie or beat a lot of cars with 50 more hp (350Z) around a track. You'll notice that the trend is cars with more horsepower are also heavier and have crap handling/braking. Maybe I should go on E-talk and complain about how that car only has 190hp which is even less than the RX-8 and see what they say.

I don't see how it's even possible to option a new RX8 past 36K, I'd say a maxed out new one is maybe 34 loaded.

You're expecting to buy one a 2 year old one for 16K? Geez I wouldn't even WANT to own a car that takes a 50%+ depreciation hit in 2 years, that's called a GM product. I can understand wanting to pick up a good deal and I'm sure you can find a high mileage 04 for what you want to pay but not a car with under 20K miles that's a year newer.

That being said I updated my first post with my final price, if no one bites I'm keeping it.

Just had all the dings taken out tonight with paintless dent repair, it's pristine now and could pass for a showroom car

LOL, you better drive here fast too because I dont' even really want to sell it at 18and I might keep it. The price will definetely not go below 18K so there's no negotiations at all etc.

you are giving it away as it is. i don't understand how people can let these things go so cheap seeing that the kbb on yours is over 19. I have an 04 for sale on here that the kbb on it is 18 in good condition and people are telling me that 16 is the best i will get? come on. 04's are selling on used lots for 20k so you cant tell me that they aren't worth that much.

It's a forum, that's where you find the lowest lowballers in the market. Dealers mark 40K mile 04's for 18-20 but end up selling them probably more around 17.5 depending on the market. My car at a dealer would easily go for 21-22 asking price and probably end up selling for 19.5.

KBB on my car is 19.2 and it is ACTUALLY in excellent condition, it looks like a new car. I think anything below kbb on a 1 year old car (with 3 years left on the bumper to bumper and 4 yrs on the powertrain) is a good deal.

If I had a 04 in nice condition I wouldn't even bother selling it for 16, that's too much of a beating and you can't get anything comparable for the same price. Hell I don't even want to sell mine for under 18.5 really.

I'm in no rush, just looking for the right buyer around here that wants this particular package (no sunroof), color and miles. The whole market is soft right now, dealers are whoring out new cars and the housing market is crap so people are losing homes right and left and not looking for new toys.

Well people still have to drive, in my case I just drive the RX-8 less since it's my nicer/fun car. I have a 26 mpg Miata that I daily drive.
