caveman, your right..i will be doing a lot more research into it but i know i will eventually go FI. i fell in love with it in my last car and even though im loving my 8 now, i know that i will want to add a turbo to it. ive also read something very similar to what ryuu is saying. my only hang up is no having omp..ive been running pre mix now so its not like it would be a hassle but i like knowing that i have a omp and that me running premix is more of a way for me to keep my engine in good shape longer..

REW are extremely slow though. It makes the car look ugly too.

Dude, that MAY be true if you do the work yourself but your severly underestimating the costs involved in transplanting an 13B REW in this car. Let's take a stab in the dark of what this will cost:

- Used engine with 30 to 40k miles: $3,752.50 Link on Ebay
- Rebuilds from Rx7store.net: $2150 to $3150 (Stock rebuild to a stage 4 rebuild)
- Parts: The above engine is only the cost for the engine and anything attached with the engine itself being the only thing promissed to be in working order. I think it is same to say parts can range from $1k to $5k (Turbo, fuel rails, plugs, wires, coils, water pump, oil pump, oil coolers, all hoses, etc)
- Transmission: $1500 to $2k
- Custom Drive Shaft: $800 (Guess)
- Labor: O_O I don't even know where to begin here. Like another $5k? Prob more...something will need fabrication plus the electronics will need to work with the new ECU.

13B Rew
Total guesstimate: $14, 202.50 (If your lucky) $19, 702.50 (if you either need lots of parts or decide to upgrade)

Add a Turbo to the Renesis: $7k done right and tuned
Rebuild 50k miles later: $2500 (stock rebuild) $4,000 (heavily ported and blue printed) - Note the aftermarket rebuilds will last longer
Total: $9, 500 ($7k now and $2500 in a year or 2 or 3) $11,000 ($7k now and $4k in a year or 2 or 3 PLUS you make much more power due to port)

Now as far as those frankenstein engines...We've only heard rumors and speculation. There are no threads to my knowledge showing 13B internals with Renesis end plates (I hope I said that right). Not to mention no proof of one running for an extended period of time so untill this is proven it sounds more like fantasy to me.

Since none of us know how to do any of this ourselves I am going to say what I wrote above is at least 80% accurate and a decent estimate. Not doable for the average Joe or else more of us would have done it. Sorry dude not trying to seem like a kill joy but I just don't see it.

EDIT: One last point...I know what your thinking...Sell your old ****. At best you will get about $4k...At worst $2k but that is irrelevant. You are now adding to labor charges and time and effort on your own to remove and sell the engine and tranny. Not to mention do you have another car? I hope so cause the Rx8 will be in the shop for a couple of months. If you don't I hope you get free rentals.

Actually do not get hung up on not having the omp. What would you rather do...Run recycled/dirty engine oil in the combustion chamber with oil that is not designed to burn in the combustion process? or Use an external container with 2 stroke oil (designed to burn off during combustion) that is clean and free from engine contaminants?

Option two allows you to have a visual of how much oil has been used and add when necessary. The cleaner burn provided by 2 stroke oil will also minimize carbon build up.

Note: not all Turbo's require you to remove the OMP.

I know which one your talking about I heard about it but it's a fairy tale until a builder has 1) a running engine with dyno's proving it's not crap and 2) a customer indicating the thing runs great. Even then you will speculate how long that thing will last (not saying it won't). Too much unknown and I wouldn't spend my money on it until I was certain and I don't think you would either. Unless you have one of these guys on here that don't mind taking the risk.

On a side note: if it does work...That is what I would want to do. It would maybe add a little more money to a rebuild and you could get 13B rew housings/rotors and known reliability at higher power levels (400 wHP).

I know south motors is the other Mazda dealer in Miami, however I was wondering if any of you recommend anything a little north, like Ft. lauderdale or that area up there

The rule of thumb is all Mazda dealer service departments suck period. So the only bet is to go somewhere else and roll the dice that your experience is ok.

Thus far my experience at Gunther Mazda is less than stellar but not horrible. You can try them if you wish.

Later,

Chris

I wonder if mine still under warranty... so you guys recommend to do a compression test before spending the money on the coils

Coils do not make your compression better, but are important to keep the car running properly. So my honest opinion would be tune up AND test (if issues persist or are near end of warranty)

I agree with South Motors and Gunther. There's a guy at South Mazda that actually knows a decent bit about rotaries and appreciates them, I think is name is Mario.. not sure, but he's always taken real good care of my car and been really cool
