3rd Annual RX-8 Descent on Road Atlanta March 16, 17, 18 2007 with NASA-SE

It is time to start planning the 3rd Annual RX-8 Descent on Road Atlanta. This is the largest RX-8 track gathering for the Georgia RX-8 Club. We would like to extend the invitation to all our RX-8 brothers and sisters to join the Georgia Club and spend the weekend wringing out your cars at an awesome track - Road Atlanta. The event is a 3 day spectacular for the first time ever. NASA-SE has the track for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and registration is now open.
Friday - HPDE3 certified drivers and above ($169)
Saturday & Sunday - HPDE 1-4 ($349).

In years past we have had RX-8ers from all over join us including the famous Charles R Hill who drove down from Detroit for our first ever March Road Atlanta event. Rxeightr also joined us making the trek from Huntsville, AL. Last year we had Redshedevil and Bluerenesis drive down from Chicago and Wisconsin. We also welcome friendly people no matter whether they drive RX-8s or not.

Registration is here

Just to bring you up to speed, I had a holiday chat w/Brian C from Road Atlanta tonight and found out that our beloved track is being repaved, walls are being moved back, concrete patches removed, etc. Sooooooo that means a cherry virgin track surface will be ours for the taking. A Merry Christmas Indeed!!!!!

I used my coupon for Sat&Sun so I will be there, and will pay for Friday - so plan on at least one non-RX8 being there with you bud.

I will be there Saturday and Sunday, I will be a spectator for Friday evening. Are we going to RV it again? If the weather is good i may bring a tent--march is usually nice.
THIS WILL BE A GREAT EVENT ALL AND SOUNDS LIKE A DREAM WITH NEW SURFACING AND A LITTLE MORE ROOM!!!!!
BETTER START GETTING THE CAR READY.

"Our March event usually sells out early and as of today some of the groups are very close to being full - so if you want to test out the new pavement at RA I HIGHLY suggest you register ASAP"

I'm debating that....depends on interest in doing that.....I would need four to five takers @ 50 ea to justify the lodge's transport, food, etc. The plan would be to come in Friday late am to set up.

I will be working this one. The new surface is tempting me to drive it, but finances in march will not allow me to drive it. So, working for me, but I will be there.

$50 is WAY too expensive for a cool, fun, clean place to stay with great food, awsome company and a great view or turns 10A/B. That sucks dude. Plus, OD snores like a lumberjack. I'll have to sleep with my coupon pants on in case TA gets rowdy during the evening.

You got at least one here. I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding 5. Just tell them you're serving *** and there'll be a line. Plus, I have several more new lines similar to the tampon one that I'll have to dish out during the weekend....

I'm registered for Sat/Sun. Didn't get my cupon taken care of in time so I had to shell out $349. Screw-it! I'm not going to miss this.

Hey I will contribute the $50 to the Hilton--even if I dont sleep there! Heck the location, storing your junk, the food etc is worth more. I'm serious about the tent and NO it is not about the snoring(even though--daymn guys-- last time it did set off my knock sensor, retarding my timing a bunch!) --I really enjoy sleeping outsifde when the weather is nice. I am at home on the ground--guess it is a Vietnam/country boy left over. I wont be driving Friday but i will be up early and that will be great to have time to get the car ready without that "rush' in the morning.
I have a feeling that this is going to be the best one yet!
Some of our out of Ga buddies HAVE to try and make this one. I wish ole Charles Hill and the others would come back.

Red told me a while back that there may be a northern contingency migrating down our way. Wonder if they are still contemplating it.

Dang, just when I learned my marks, the track will change. Wonder what that will do to lap times?

I don't think it will be hard to find new ones. I doubt the curbing location will change either so you should be OK.

I would love to chip in for the meals, yet I will stay somewhere else.

Offical word on the repave:

ROAD ATLANTA WORK: An extensive resurfacing project at Road Atlanta is well on its way, the focal point of a series of renovations and capital improvements to the famed Atlanta-area road course.

In addition to repaving the entire 2.54-mile, 12-turn circuit, crews also will move back the walls on both sides of the lower part of the Esses to provide competitors additional runoff room. It also will increase the sight lines for fans on "Spectator Hill" from turns 4 to 5.

All of the concrete patches have been removed. Filling the patches with asphalt will provide better adhesion completely around the track.

Previously, the back half of the main paddock and the front entrance parking lot were paved earlier this year. Originally built in 1970, Road Atlanta was last repaved in 1992. Since purchasing the world-renowned facility in 1996, Dr. Don Panoz has spent millions of dollars in capital improvements including the redesign of turn 10 and elimination of the Dip. More than 300,000 tons of rock and dirt were moved to create the new Main Paddock on the infield side of the track.

ok just what I needed --a way to carry enough speed so i dont have to downshift to 3nd to take #5. Maybe this will help. Psycholodgical you know. I wonder if they are going to do anything to the rumbles at the top of 5?
It will be so cool to drive on a new surface---When they did this to Roebling it made it a LOT faster. Will have to relearn the track some
God I cant wait! I may have to do 3 days!
