if your thinking of lowering your car, this would be the best time and they run around 170 for s techs.

Good point. I would like to put S-techs or Mazdaspeed springs with this install. I think the MS shocks might be a bit much for the OEM springs, but the best install price so far is $400 labor from a shop on SR 210 that works on VW/Audi/Benz. That would put me at $975 with MS shocks and S-Tech springs installed. Might wait a paycheck or two and go with Tein Basic or Tokico D-Spec coilovers for a couple hundred more instead.

So I was in Orland today and saw an 8 at a shop that was in mid process of a 20b install. Now that I have seen how much hacking is done to the car to get the thing to go together, I am absolutely never interested in it. I love my car to much to do that to it..

I and some other guys on here would be more then happy to help you with the install for free. I've done couple of suspension swaps and simple tools will do just need to get some spring compressors from autozone or something. but if your set on coilovers you can get k-sport for around 800 new. they are suppose to be very good on rear wheel drive cars. i've had couple of buddies with them and they all love them as they are fully adjustable both height and softness or stiffness.
I really do appreciate the offer. I will definitely take you up on it. I had 4 new Koni Sport Yellow delivered today. Now just a decision on springs which I'm down to Tein H-tech vs. Swift and I'm leaning towards Swift right now. Will order in the next few days and after that will be ready for the install. I'll rent the compressor any special tools needed. Thanks again.

Tein S-Tech: 207/145 - Drop = 1.4"/0.7"
Tein H-Tech: 179/129 - Drop = 1.0"/0.3"

no problem just let me know when. also a question for you? have you ever had a car lowered before? the reason i ask is you might not be to happy with h tech or swift as they give the car a safe lowered look. it will lower it about an inch and you might be upset as sometimes you wouldnt notice the difference. below is the difference between the two drops for front and rear. just throwing my 2 cents in case you havent looked around
Tein S-Tech: 207/145 - Drop = 1.4"/0.7"
Tein H-Tech: 179/129 - Drop = 1.0"/0.3"

thanks for the advice. No i haven't lowered before. I have done a fair amount of reading/research on this and other sites and that's what led me to the koni/aftermarket springs choice. There is some data indicating koni sports will lower as much as 0.5" alone. I'm trying to avoid to much of a drop with the bottoming and rubbing issues. More interested in the handling/ride quality than the look. I've settled on h&r sport springs. Looks like 1.0" f/r with those so a little lower with the koni's should work well. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

speaking of that, when is the next track day guys??
This weekend a buddy wants me to run my car at the track in gainseville. even though i know our cars are not for straights, i would like to find out what i can do with my quick gear changes lol. should i gut everything inside the car?

sounds great as you've done your homework I just throw the lowering differences out there as usually people get scared of lowering it to much and then getting something with small drop and regret it later. but your not the case. sounds like your planning on taking it to some tracks lol.

its about a tenth of a second gained per 100lbs lost, dont waste your time. its very difficult to get it all out without breaking a few clips here and there, and it may not go back together right afterwards. I expect that you will run 13's, if your lucky you may break 12's.
i've taken my car apart before and its a pain in the *** but the combine weight of everything is a lot. just sooooooo dont want to put everything back in cuz my lazy *** will take about a month lol.

Congrats on the car! Pics or it didn't happen.
You just missed our biggest meet in a long time (which doesn't say a whole lot for Jax), so the next one probably won't be til April or so. The Jacksonville Rotorheads are hard to get together for meets for some reason. Nobody taking charge to organize events.
You could check out Sonic on Beach Blvd @ St John's Bluff on Saturday nights around 10pm, but there are rarely rotorheads there.
If you're new to the rotary, there's lots of information on this site. Start reading!
