Addendum to "things to bring" list:

digital camera (possible exchange for film/battries) and charger; cell phone charger

dramamine (as required usually by passengers)

roadside emergency kit (triangle/flares, cables, flashlight - also comes in handy as map light)

Jacket / sweatshirt (gets cool at night in the mntns)

compass ; Trail mix ; running shoes,shorts,shirt

I'd never seen the suggestion of an "Emergency Envelope" in the glove box - good idea!

I ordered a bra for the trip up, and paid to have it next day aired to me... I got an email back yesterday that they are on national backorder. Anyone else here this?

We didn't have enough people enroll to warrant another facility. Additionally, due to liabilities, you have to be either 18 years of age or accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Besides..less than two days notice really doesn't give the organizers enough time to properly plan for your enrollment in these events. I'm afraid there's no room at the inn and we don't have a manger. Maybe next year?

don't cancel your trip to the Gap because of lack of room in the group place. There are plenty of places to stay in Robbinsville (Tapoco is likely booked at the Gap itself) or the general surrounding area. Robbinsville has a Microtel you should check out. Check the links at tailofthedragon.com for other accomodations. You'll find a room somewhere within 15-30 minutes of your beginning your quest for a room! Hope you can make it!

Just thought I would add my cell phone since it wasn't on the list: 865-973-0568. As pointed out cell service up in the area of the Dragon is sketchy at best. in Robbinsville it shouldn't be too bad but you never can tell in the mountains.

As far as my camera, it is not digital but I am planning on bumming a digital one. Anyone that brings a camera is welcome to borrow my mount and make a Dragon run with it. It will mount in car or outside depending on your preference. Raz has first dibs but after that it's free game. Since I live close I can film any time. The last filming we did with an old 8mm camera was an absolute blast to watch and I can only assume a digital camera would be waaaaay better.

I'm leaning more towards not bringing my Super8, so I'll probably only be bringing my digital still camera. With ALL THESE DOORPRIZES I won't have a heck of a lot of room left.

By the way, Pat....you're now on the planning board for NEXT YEAR'S event. :D

SEEYAS THERE!!!

By the way (PART 2). The attached picture is from 2002. I think that's a right-nice looking place to have a photo op, dontcha think?

Additional Item to bring..

1 or 2 rolls of toilet paper in a zip loc bag...

They make handy makeshift bandages..
Can be used to start fires..
Can be made into handy surrender flags incase we are invaded
Can be used as locator beacons/flares if you throw them high in the air
You can probably eat it too
Oh and last but not least, you can use it to mark your way so you dont get lost in the woods!

I ALMOST FORGOT!! You can use it to collect dew for drinking water.

I just saw this while checking killboy.com for pics of my friends who rode the dragon last weekend. Just some FYI for anyone worried about the recent rain in the area.

"...The rains moved across the area without much drama. We just came back from Maryville to pick up supplies, and the Gap was clear of obstructions. No mudslides...a few trees had fallen across the road and had been cleared, but there was still some bark and wood scattered around where they fell that should be blown off as soon as it dries up and a few cars run across it. As always, make a sighting run to check things out on your first trip across..."

For those that haven't seen the link to his site or don't know of him killboy camps the dragon from Friday to Sunday most weekends and shoots pictures of all that venture to tame the dragon. He then sells the pics on disk for $5 a shot. I am sure we will all make his site this weekend if we run the dragon enough times. I have bought pics he shot of me and my friends riding our bikes through there and I can assure you he takes very high quality shots.

Anyway just a little FYI.

Man, all this talk of the Dragon makes me want to jump in on this! I rode the Dragon on two wheels last year and it was the best ride I've ever been on. I just know it would be just as much fun in the 8, but darn, I just don't have the time now.

LeeP, what made you leave the two-wheeled fraternity?
