Hey that's really great news Keith! It took them three days to get mine out of the shop. Of course they were already full when the flatbed dropped it off. Good to hear they took care of you.

Did they say anything about the new battery/spark plugs?

Hey chris,

Thanks for info. If I drive up, I'll prolly be in a taraus saynig hello. If not, I need to find a time to meet up with you guys LOL, maybe when I get my new car (probably Mazada 3).

Keith, good to hear she started up okay and is getting back to normal. Sorry about the flooding. I was hoping mazda got the flooding down... to where the rx-8s wouldn't really flood.

I didn't have time to pick up my RX-8 today....so I drove my police car to work. Sandy Sansing Mazda ordered me the new dipstick, replacement engine cover grommets, and the addendum to the owners manual. They put in new plugs...as directed by the latest service bulletin. They had to keep the car a bit longer because they're putting on the "N" flash...also as directed by the latest service bulletin. It would have been an easy flash upgrade but they haven't done the "N" flash yet (mine will be the first for them) and they're having to load up their computers with the latest software. The upload of the new software to their computers should have taken 4 hours but it took longer than they anticipated (slow computers). Sooo, tomorrow I'll pick the car up and give it a buzz along I-10 to see how the new flash and plugs feel. I'll keep you updated.

Oh...as a side note....they probably wouldn't have put in the new plugs and new "N" flash if I didn't bring it to their attention. (Thanks Labop for the reminder to bring printed out service bulletins with me to the dealer).

I saw the cruiser today I was curious. No prob on the print out suggestion, it's mainly my being an ****-retentive-pain-in-the-***-customer that causes me to do things like that. :D

I thought the N flash was the same as M, shouldn't have to load anything. Humm, maybe I should go get flashed to N.

The service bulletin says because some early calibrations do not have the improvements to cold start performance, it is important to update the vehicle's PCM to prevent possible no start concerns. All vehicles that do not have the updated calibration for no start concerns need to be updated. This includes vehicles coming in to the dealer for repairs unrelated to the no start concern, or normal schedule maintenance.

So, I had them do the flash.

All is well with my RX8!!! Got the spiffy new "N" flash and new spark plugs....startup is a bit faster and smoother, and it's running quite peppy. Got one new engine cover grommet (other one on order). Got the new dipstick on order. Got the owners manual update on order. She's running smoooooth. Total cost = $00.00. Can't beat that (without the dealer paying me to work on my car). Saturday's meeting of Cool Cars of Pensacola looks to be on schedule (if good weather).

Car Show 23 April! Calling all RX8/7's

Cool Cars of Pensacola is sponsoring a Car Show on 23 April 2005 at the Navy's Corry Station in Pensacola, FL. We'd like a good showing of RX8's and RX7's, and any other cool car/classic car available. The car show is in support of the Navy & Marine Corps Relief Society.

Email me at boringkajj@hotmail.com if you're interested in attending or want more info. Put "Car Show" in the subject line so I know you're email isn't one of the millions of spam emails I get daily.

More info about the show will be posted.

Brand new shinka spotted... on Corry station, just a few spaces from me. I haven't talked to the owner yet. But I checked out his car.

Instead of the silver peices running the length of the center console, they are piano black. He still has the protective plastic on them..., I would too! :D

Looke nice tho, I'm going to try and drag him out to our meets.

I won't be able to make it to the CCP Car Show on the 23rd. I'll be TDY in gorgeous Valdosta, GA.

Thank you for the warm welcome. As if owning a brand new RX8 isn't enough privilege in itself, we've now met new friends (who equally love this amazing car).

Hope to see you soon! Your wife is, of course, welcome to check out my new Shinka!

New Rx-8 Owner in your Ranks

Hey all,

Just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. I bought an '04 RX-8 from Baldwin county. Gray, 13k miles. So far I've put 500 miles on it. At 400 the check engine light came on, took it to Grady in Mobile, they flashed it and sent me on my way but the engine came on again in around 90 miles. I'll drop it off to Sandy Sansing on my way to the office Monday, wish me luck.

I'll be honest, I had read about these cars before buying one but the more of the nay-sayer "my car is broken and has been in the shop forever" posts I see, the more apprehensive I get considering my check engine light has been on twice in this little bit out time.

Hopefully, the patience will pay off.

Love driving the car, it's the funnest car I've driven and love the look, so hopefully all is well

L8r,

anomaly,

Welcome to the forum. Hope you keep enjoying your 8!

So far my 8 has been really good to me. I had a flooding issue once, but that was thanks to the body shop (minor fender bender) pulling it in and out of their shop a few times without letting her warm up or giving her a rev on shutdown. Haven't had any engine problems since. :D

Sorry to hear about your CEL problem. Hope they get it fixed. Ive had great luck with Sandy Sansing. The only problem with their service just happened at my 15,000 mile svc. They changed the oil filter and left an oil soaked rag in there right on the engine. I caught it when I picked it up (I'm paranoid and always give my cars a once over after they go to the dealer). The service manager was shocked and pissed. Hope no one got fired, but learned a lesson. They offered me a couple free oil changes.

That's cool. I've loved the car so far despite the minor CEL annoyance. I should get it back today - they kept it overnight for a recall (and gave me a minivan, bleck).

Just in case, I bought a CAN-capable diag software and dongle, http://www.tekmatetools.com/ and I'll use an old notebook so I can stay on top of any future CEL's and hopefully have an idea of the severity before bringing it back to the dealer. (Plus, that one's pretty cheap - I'll keep you posted if it works well)

Thanks for the heads up on the once-over - I'll definitely do that b/c they are, in fact doing the 15k service while diagnosing the CEL - I'll keep an eye out for any carelessness.

Well, I got mine back from Sandy Sansing. They performed the fuel tank insulation recall, replaced the gas cap and I paid for a 15,000 mile service.
The good news, so far no CEL and the car runs great, most of the time.
The bad news, when the engine is cold and first started, it runs erratically for a few minutes in between warm-up bursts but after 2-5 minutes - runs great.

The upside, it seems to be resolving itself. It has gotten a little better each day.

Another downside, they overfilled me on oil (about to where the flat stick becomes round again, on the dipstick). I don't suppose it'll do any damage but I drained it to the top mark, anyway.

Hope everyone's 8's are doing well.

Pensacola Meet

All,
Isn't it around time for another meet and greet in Pensacola? Any consensus on what Saturday would work for everyone? I'm good for any weekend. Looks like a couple new folks in the forum, so time to say HI.

anomaly, you got the recall performed? damn, I should have left it for a couple of days longer, they might have done it to mine as well. I might just give them a call. I thought we had to wait until we had the official recall letters in hand... hrmm.

Let's do a get togeter this coming weekend. Weather permitting... boy is it crap out there today.

Welcome to sake sipper, what color do you have and what part of town are you usually in?

Yeah, they actually brought it up to me when they pulled the vehicle history.
I thought that was pretty ironic since I had taken her to Grady just two days prior for the gas cap deal and they didn't even mention it.

I just figured it would b/c I was paying for a $200 oil change.
(the 15k mile stuff)

Or, maybe it was because i have ******* written on my forehead and they wanted to put me in a mnivan for a couple of days..

Since I got her back, she idles rough in the mornings. Hasn't thrown a code yet. I plan to take it back to see what they think but I was still in mini-van shock and wanted to drive it before re-frequenting the service department.
