You guys have fun and be safe! I wish I could get some track right now, but my car is in pieces right now. Doing some "Top Secret" mods to the car.
Oh - my shop called and told me that they just tuned a car with my exact set up to 571 rwhp - tempting - I think I will live with 440rwhp until I get better. Then turn the tune master loose.

Man, I guess I should've read this thread before venturing out to RA today. No overpowered RX-7's or Silver RX-8's to be seen. There were some other cool vehicles there though. A very slick dk gray GT40 as well at a pair of identical silver Vipers. And the Z06's were there in force too. If I have enough gas, maybe I head out there tomorrow.

Really enjoyed seeing everyone and I wish I could have sit shotgun with Charlie in the scream machine. A special thanks to TrackAddict for 1 1/2 sessions of fantastic instruction. You gonna be a great instructor for NASA my friend. And to Travis for being the official GA RX8Club Photographer. Can't wait to look at the images.
I'm really tired...
- 6 sessions
- 2 full tanks of gas w/premix
- 1 qt of 5w20
and a best lap of 1:536
The Anezis were AWESOME and they (along with the excellant instruction) helped me to a 10 second better than my last time with NASA. Seems like I did some of my best driving with TrackAddict in the car and for my last session I was really comfortable and dropped my time a touch more.
Robert (my brother) had the opportunity to ride on a big track for the first time since TGPR when he rode with TA and he had a blast.
I have lots of video to go through and I look forward to posting it as soon as I can get the time.
Got some action vids, especially with the Cobra getting squirrelly entering turn 3 right in front of me. Robert just about blew his shorts out on that one.
Lots of fun and I have more to talk about but right now.... I'm tired, hungry and I need a bath.
Thanks for the help with the tires Charlie.

he seemed to have issues with that car all weekend, when I rode with you, he was sitting in the grass of to the left of turn 1, almost as if he did not get slowed down, and just drove off and made his way back toward the track surface. I can also see why your brother pissed himself, if you have nto had that happen before, it is a little shocking the first time.

I spoke to the driver of the Cobra. We talked about his tires. He was trying to keep the car period design which included keeping the tires dated. That means lower than standard tires for the track. Hence an overpowered car with no traction. While talking to one of the Panoz instructors, he said the Cobra coming up the hill at turn 5, unintentionally aggressively shifted gears and he saw air under the front two tires.

if you are going to go to that trouble to build a nice car, and try to be true to historical data and specs...why track it? It was a nice looking car, but if the tires can't keep it on the road, what is the point.

OD & TA2... thanks for the props... but I think HPDE3 is still a ways off. I got a few things to work out before you want me in there with you guys. I should have one of my best laps up later this evening. I'm working at it right now. Stay tuned.

OK, here is a vid of my last two laps of the day. The first one was typical of my last two sessions with 3rd gear from turn 3 to the standard shifting spot between 5 & 6. I also started shifting down to 2nd gear in turn 7. I don't think it really helped the speed because I'm still shifting into 4 just before the bridge. On my last and favorite lap of the day, I shifted to 4th on the short straight between Turn 3 and 4. The car felt like it got a boost that I'd never felt there. I think it was because I had lots of RPM's going already and she wanted to giddy-up. It felt much smoother than 3rd gear. The shift down to 3rd felt perfect and I was up the hill in 5. The whole lap felt smooth and I was ready to go around again and do it the same exact way. Damn checker flag! You will see my last lap time at the end of the vid.
So, when we do this again?

1:53's is very respectable in your car, which if I am not mistaken is lightly modded, nothing extreme. My best on streets was like 1:48's, and that is with nearly double the HP you guys have, so kudos......We all know how much horsepower really helps coming out of 7 to 10.
Just FYI, I will be at Roebling, probably as a student. I am going to bring the wifey down for some Savannah fun, and tow my car down with the Jeep. I was 'supposed' to deliver it tomorrow, but I just can't. I want to see if I can get below 1:25's my previous best at Roebling. Hopefully, with the R's and the new tune, it should be feasible.

My day was normally 1:54s - 1:58s as I learned more and more and fine-tuned what TA and the Panoz guys were telling me. I didn't find out till later in the day I had a 1:54 so my times were not really an issue at that point. I didn't realize until I timed the video of my last lap of the day that I actually had a 1:51.3. The difference was shifting to 4th between turn 3 and 4 that set up the back part of the track. I just seemed to nail every turn that time and the entire lap seemed effortless. I didn't have a clue that I had knocked 3 seconds off my time just by making that shift. I kept hitting the rev limiter half way through the esses when I was in 3rd and it just seemed like the car was working way too hard. She really liked the shift to 4th.
