I agree, dues should be setup to defer the cost. Set an amount that will cover the domain fees, website host fee, and what ever else is needed to get it up and running.
You can count me in. I can send you dues money through Paypal if that works for you.
Just as thought, maybe everyone who joins gets a shirt, include that in the dues cost. Should the cost of the banner be included to?

The banner, is a work in progress. We are trying to get some sponsorship $$, but have not had any luck yet.
By my math, the website after the first year is $90. Not too bad really. Add in the $12 a year for the domain name, we are at $112. So that does not work out to a lot of money per person, but as mentioned, how many are involved in this little club we have started. My guess is that there are over 20 that post in our threads, and take part in events. Some more than others, but it does need to be a flat annual club dues amount.
Would any of us miss $20 a year, doubtful. Any extra money, goes to our treasurer, to help offset any costs that we incur along the course of a year, for buying things when going to races etc, where we would have a large turnout. Not so much for individual things like the costs for going to something like Andretti’s.
While we initially wanted avoid the idea of membership dues, I think we are growing fast enough, and wanting to do things that would facilitate needing to collect dues from everyone, to avoid having any one person shouldering a financial obligation such as the website.
Maybe we need to start a new thread, that gets a list of those that would like to be considered part of the Official Georgia RX-8 club, and an opinion on a annual dues amount.
My two cents, for what it is worth.

trhoads, I think the list could be on the GARX8Club site. All we need here is to make sure that everyone in the SE forum knows to go to our site for details. They will be listed there anyway and anything here would be a duplication. IMHO

I was just thinking that we need to get an idea on how many people we are talking about as interested members.. I could list a lot at this point. But I am sure that I would forget a few. And of those that I can think of, how many would actually want to be an "official" member.

I'm up for paying a annual fee and getting a shirt or some decal of the club logo. Sounds like a great idea to have a setup like this. I'm willing to pay the money at this upcoming photo meet if everyone else is.

Charlie has a connection with a hosting company. He will be communicating with them and letting them know that he will be financial responsible for the site. He will then get back to me with some info and a contact. Then we will be able start discussing just what we need to do and what we can accomplish. Stay tuned as I suspect this will start developing soon.
EDIT:
I'd like to know who would like to help and what your abilities are?

I'm a web applications developer (asp and asp.net). If you can find out what hosting company he's using, I can look them up and see what kind of stuff would be possible. I can't design my way out of a paper bag, but I can do all the coding if someone can provide the design ideas.
Ideally, I'd like to see the hosting co. offer .NET capability and a SQL Server database. We could do a whole lot with that, though not having the SQL Server won't limit us too terribly.

I'm afraid the only talent I have is to become a member of this Club. So let me know when it's time to pay the annual dues.
Mazcare -- nice touch to sponsor the website. Thanks.

After Charlie gets a few things squared away on his end then I think we should have a web group meeting and discuss an approach to our site so that we are all on the same page. Lets see if another person or two joins in. The only requirements are that you have something to contribute and a desire to be part of something cool!
Interested in helping:
- marietta 8: Sponsor
- SilverEIGHT: Administration/Web Design & Production (Graphical interface)/Photography/Graphics/Photoshop
- Asmoran: Applications developer (asp and asp.net)
- rx-member: System Admin(DNS,SMTP,etc...)portal design, graphic design
. code:asp,php,xml,html,css
. data:ms-sql,Mysql
- Super: Photography
- hmeaders: Will help where needed
- Glypnon: Photoshop... html, css, and a bit of php, photography & misc.

Is it possible for us to get together this Saturday? How about for lunch at someplace we can sit and discuss the issues.
I talked with Charlie, we are open to go to the best available source for web hosting. So, lets start looking for the the best company.
My suggestion:
startlogic.com
PROLOGIC - $7.50 Per Month
On special for $70.50 for the first year in advance ($5.875 per month, 12 months)
5 GIGS of Storage
Details
Please post other suggestions so we can all be educated to other opportunities.

It doesn't support asp, .net, or MS Sql Server - so I wouldn't be able to help out much. But it does support php, so rx-member could do his stuff. Typically a web server won't support both (and the MS options are usually more expensive).
It also supports perl, of which I have a decent amount of knowedge (though I'm a bit rusty). Though with php support I don't see why we'd be reduced to running perl scripts.
All in all it's totally up to you guys. I don't even know where to start looking for web hosting. Everything I do at work is hosted internally.

Of course I am interested, sorry I don't know much anything about web work. I do work with Photoshop a good bit, and like to think if myself as something of a camera guy. Not quite like silver, but I try.

The account is set up with StartLogic. Charlie called and set-er-up! I will be changing the DNS tonight and moving the tempory page over to the new account. Tomorrow we can discuss some of the issues and then we can jump in and start making this thing happen. With such a great group, I'm confident we are going to have one hell of a nice web site.
