The only complain I have from the Hawk pads I have is the amount of brake dust they cause. It's a light brown color too...not black. It's kind of wierd but it washes off fairly easy.

OK - I am not crazy. My pads dust like that too. L8's dust was black. Maybe he got his brake dust dirty?

I've mulled around getting a set of track rotors too. That way, my everyday rotors won't get eaten up as quickly. They should be able to be changed out fairly easily while the pads are being changed.

allright, now I am getting psyched out for this, less than two weeks. Today I ordered my pyrometer, more tapes for the digi cam, a cool wide angle lens for better peripheral vision, now lets hit the track.

2 questions - is it a probe pyrometer? What wide angle lens/source/price? (ok maybe that was 4 questions)

I did not buy the probe style pyrometer, they were just more money than I wanted to spend. I got the laser point and shoot variety. Quick, and easy. Under 100 bucks, with a case, so that is good enough for me. I will be bringing it with me, since I really want to look at what part of my tire is heating up, since that seems to be very important for the tire tha I am running now.

The wide angle lens is one specifically for my Sony Camcorder. I looked up the cam on Sony's website, to find the right specs, and look at available lenses, then ordered it from B&H Photo video, b/c they are a lot less expensive than anywhere else. I gotta spend money on the track, not the pipe. The lens was less than 30 bucks, it is a .6 magnification. So it should allow me to get a better peripheral view of the track, instead of the real estate right in front of the car.

I'd be interested to use that pyrometer on the exhaust and engine as well to see what temperatures we run on different parts of the car. Be interesting to see if stock or RB products change the temperature.

to accutely measure your exhaust temp under load you going to have to buy the sensor and gauge for that. the laser pyrometer --while fun and somewhat useful --unfortunaly will not be accuate for that.

We can use the pyrometer to measure our own temp. I have a fever and the only prescription is more cowbell.

on a TOTALLY different track...(no pun)...we gonna meet up at a close Waffle House for the mandatory track breakfast? I'm looking for one off of AL-21 but the closet I can find so far to the track is this one.....it's 13 miles from the track....

the pyrometer i bought only goes up to 500 degrees. Exhaust temps, while I don't know what they are, will probably be higher than that. This one is accurate to 2%. I would like to monitor the heat of the intake runner just before the MAF sensor, and a few other spots, just out of curiosity. While it may not be 100% accurate, what is. It can be used on brake rotors, track surface, tires, and to see if you need more cowbell, but we all know, "you can never have to much cowbell!"

from the awful waffle website, there are three, about a couple miles from each other.

I know the Hampton Inn is where most will be staying Friday night; does anyone need a room mate? I just got Friday off so I'll be able to get there at a decent hour. Also, what are the track hours for our event?
