Georgia RX-8 Club Banner

Hey Georgia 8'ers.

I am going to contact a banner manufacturer, I already have one in mind, and see about getting us a good size banner made to take with us to outings, events and races that we all go to. It will obvioulsy have our logo on it, probably 3'-0" tall and 6'-0" wide.

I don't want to start any polls on this, but do want to get input on:
-what should go on the banner other than the logo
-what color should the banner be
-what color should the logo be

I was thinking that if it was possbile, we could get a Mazcare logo on there somewhere, maybe a couple other things, just to fill space a little, and make it look good.

Post your ideas here, and we will see what we come up with.

for racing beat, mazda, all those, do you think we would have to get permission to sue their name. I am sure Charlie would not mind us putting MAZCARE on there.

What about a black banner, with a silver or gray lettering, and then all the other insignia being in their proper colors? I will work on one tongiht at home, and post it up for comments.

I would think that to be 100% legal, you would, as their names/logos are trademarked, and as such they have control over how their name/logo is used.

that said, i don't see it being and issue getting permission (or even if you didn't get permission) because it is free advertising.

I have comunicated with Charlie, and he has replied with enthusiasm, and may help sponsor this to help cover some of the cost that I was willing to cover to start with. So that helps.

As for other companies sponsoring, well, seeing as how you are the treasurer... , we will see where that goes. Honestly, I would just be happy if they let us use their logos. But if they are willing to pitch in a few clams, then that is good too.

Here is the first draft, keep in mind, it is very rough, I am working from image files found on websites, not the highest quality around.

Technically the stylized RX-8 lettering (seen on our trunks) IS trademarked by Mazda (http://tess2.uspto.gov)

and should not be used without their permission. Likewise our beloved logo, which has that logo embedded in it is really not legal either.

To get our logo trademarked we would need Mazda's permission or change the font.

That said, Mazda is probably not going to come looking for us, but using logos and trademarked art without permission is not legal.

I was going to try and contact NASA, and SCCA, MNAO about the text, Mazda Logo, and MAZDASPEED logo. I already have Charlie's blessing for the MAZCARE logo.

Val, I agree. I have plans to do another verison with them all lined up along the bottom. I think that would give priority to our logo, and put all sponsor type logos below.

^^^ yes. also, one more thing. For higher visibilty, high contrast , dark on light. From a distance hard to see any lettering on a field of black.

yes.

He is the guy listed on the US trademark search for "RX-8". Getting his written approval would be the cat's ***.

Travis,

Are we considering asking for monetary compensation to place logos on our banner? Might defray the cost a bit.

Hey Val, how did you find information like that about who holds the patent for the RX-8 logo.

Under Trademark> Search> Structured Form Search (Boolean), Enter "RX-8" in Search Term field.

It lists a few trademarks. #78286030 is the RX-8 logo trademark serial number.

I dont think its a big deal that Mazda knows we are in a club. They can find more info right on this forum than they could at any track we might go to, if we ever did.

Travis, I'll get you the vector based art tomorrow. I'll send it in a PDF format so you can open it in what ever you need. If you need any help, just ask.

Nad I wondered about contacting Mazda. Do we really want them knowing what some of us do in our cars? Does a certain skidpad come to mind...
What on Earth could you be talking about Travis? I couldn't take better care of this car. In fact, I just changed the oil about 15 minutes ago. I've been keeping those to 3000 mile intervals.

Guys and Gals,

I want to resurrect this old thread. We never did anything with it. I would really like to have this banner for Road Atlanta in March, and then for every subsequent outing we make. I am all for putting the club logo, and the Mazcare logo on it, and being done with it. We never got any response from inquiries about sponsorships, and quite frankly that is fine with me. What do you guys think? I want to ask fast on this.

Guys, I know I'm new and not even an 8 driver, but I've got a really good connection with a great vinyl graphic shop here in town, Graphic Designs. If you can get me some specs on what you want, I'd be glad to swing by there and toss around some ideas and get an estimate for you. Hell he's making some stuff for me as we speak. I can swing by on Monday if you can get me some specs and info (size, coloring, desired graphics, etc)

Just let me know.

nashirak, you don't have to drive an 8 to be in our group. I'd love to see a Mazda 6 join in with us sometime. You are not by chance driving a Mazdaspeed 6 are you?

I like the banner Idea also guys--but I already have something going for Charlie's shop--OK. Just to let everyone know. Home built but turning out ok.
