Nice pics! I would have like been in the garage area to see all of the race modifications. Looking at the 70 car it appears that they relocated the air intake from the stock location but cannot tell exactly where they are drawing fresh air from?

These cars are technically not a stock car to begin with so the air intake wasn't relocated.
You see the Rx8's are all tube frame chasis running 20 B 3 rotor engines. When you look at the car only the body panels of the car are stock. The rx8's are the only tube frame race cars allowed due to the torque disadvantage they have as compared to the other cars.
Back to the intake...The intake is very similar to the cowl (I think thats what its called) induction intakes on american hot rodes. The air is sucked into the engine from the wind shield. This is a very good design since the intake tubes do not exist in the engine bay where temperatures are very hot. Not to mention removing the intake tube from the engine bay allows for better air flow management. At least thats my hypothesis anyway.

Ok my bad, these cars are built for performance and only to simulate the stock version in appearance. That definitely sounds like a good trick and I can see how the idea originated. I am not familiar with the rules for this GT class in what are the restrictions on design.
From experience with SCCA I know that the GT class cars are allowed to have tube frames. I had no idea that this construction was limited to only the RX8s in Grand-Am. I am sure that the weight reduction helps the low end torque issue along with the 3 rotor motor.

Geat pics. Thank you. The shuttles they had this year were great and saved a lot of walking from the south end of the track to the garages. They had water trucks trying to keep the dust down. Really enjoyed the race. The Turner BMW was lucky as his transmission was smoking and when the smoke stopped they knew all the fluid from the transmission had leaked out. Just a couple more laps would have done him in. Great for #69 catching second.
