Hey Splan8, or anyone else, you have any idea what group the blue Jetta that was with me will be in? All he has done is a boost controller, strut bars, intake, exhaust, and new BOV. Just wondering because he has no idea and I dont want to put him in the wrong group.

Thanks,
Jamie

has he run NOVICE twice already? I am leaning towards the same class you are in, but spaln has a better grasp on the clasifications.

He has ran Novice twice. That's what I was going to class him under but I was just wanting to get someone else's opinion first.

I think the boost controller will put him in SM this year, but there is talk that the 2006 rules willallow them in an ST class (STU, STX, whatever).

I am not that familiar with Turbo mods, so if you go the forums on www.soloatlanta.com & ask this question, they can make sure you and your friends are in the right class...

Ok thanks for all the help. I'm fairly sure that he'll run SM with me.

Hey all:
There is *possibly* some openings in a novice Autox school on July 9th. This would be a great learning experience and could help you improve tremendously. The opportunity does not arise until Monday, but you may be able to sign up and get in line now.

I can't do the class this time, but hopefully they will do it again another weekend.

Less than a week now, I am really looking forward to this event. I should have the video camera setup by then, so I will be able to get it all on tape. Silver may have to host it on his site if it is worth it, since I have no web space.

Happy 4th of July to everyone.

Well hell, you can count on a south carolina guy being there as well. I'm a track virgin as well so I'm gonna need whatever tips I can get. So is it my understanding that I can get a lonner helmit, so I don't need to buy anything? And are we meeting somewhere befor hand and then all ride to the event, I mean I would be cool to have 7 plus 8's rollin in at the same time.

No problem . Look forward to it. Also how are you setting up your camera and what do they accept? Does it have to be strapped down?

By the way, I just posted my images from yesterday at the WERA Motorcycle event at Road Atlanta... anyone that is interested. WERA at RA

If you have not done this before, remember to register on www.soloatlanta.org if you want to race this weekend, and read all their info. You can also search the web for "solo 2" or "Autocross" for more information.

Yes, loaner helmets are available. If you are buying your own, it can be either open face or closed face and must be "snell 95" or better I think.

Also remember there are only 25 novice spots available in the afternoon, so better get registered now if you have not yet done so.

As long as teh camera is secure, it should be no problem, just eneds to pass tech inspection.

The format really doesn't allow that kind of collective entrance to the event, however, the best advice is to get there early (to learn the track) and make sure you have the following:

- Properly registered on the www.soloatlanta.com web site for Sunday's race.
- Helmet (or using a loaner at the event is OK)
- Comfy shoes for the "work" part of it
- Race shoes for "race" part of it
- Something to drink/eat
- EVERYTHING loose removed from your car (floormats included)
- $35
- Valid Drivers License
- A little water proof tote to put things in like your watch/food/drink, etc...
- A healthy dose of humility. Your first time out, you just want one good run.
- DON'T MISS THE NOVICE MEETING (they will announce it over the PA system)
- Turn your A/c off before you race
- Turn your rear view mirror out of the way
- HAve fun
- If you have any trouble your first few times, find someone that can ride with you.

Get there around 11:30 (if you sign up for the afternoon races) and find the other RX8s or look for my #21 white miata...

silver,i bought a chase cam suction mount, not the 6 cup one that you have, but the 3 cup inside with the extension arm. it will be int he car, i am going to do some testing for good angles before the event, and plan on doing a couple different views for the event. One from the rear window, one from the front window, maybe one more. they just have to be secure. I am not putting it outside the car.

i don't think they'd allow you to put any on the outside of the car...and they may or may not allow suction mounts, not sure though. i've never seen anyone use suction mounts before (doesn't mean they haven't though). guess it depends on the person doing tech inspection and if you can convience them it is secure and isn't going to come off.

::edit:: just saw that exterior cameras are allowed (if not this year, will be for the 06 season), but whether they are interior or exterior, it must be "securely mounted". so i guess that still leaves the final approval decision to the tech inspector...so i'd have a backup plan of where you can safely stash your camera and mount just incase you aren't allowed to have it in the car.

These suction mounts are very secure, they will hold up to 75 pounds in place. I am sure that it will pass tech, I saw some being used at the event at Turner Field.

Thanks for the concern.

I've got this plan to hook up a wifi camera in the little rotary symbol on the front of the car and sync it up with the labtop at the track that way friends and family can watch it in real time. I have the camera and labtop from work but I have to make a mount for it so it wont fall out while sliding sideways. I'd hate to run over a $300 camera that isn't even really mine. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jamie

I know for a fact that you can't have a laptop in the cabin. People used to try to do that with their emanage software... no go.

I know why "especially Don"... because you are going to be riding with me first round and you don't want to have to change your pants! :D

I'd love to do that but I will not be available on Saturday. Dang-it!

Actually the schools usually share about 50% of the track with the course you will run on sunday, so you will be way ahead, especially if you have never done this before.

Oh, I got your voicemail but it's garbled. Ring me again if you need to. We just upgraded our blackberrys.
