Holiday Laps at Virginia Int'l Raceway
"Just got word from one of the RRDI members that VIR has announced their Holiday Laps for 2005. This year they will be opening the track up on Friday and for a donation of $25 you'll be able to get on the track for a 30 minute session. The usual rules apply for public laps, no passing and they are led by a pace car. Neither of there presents a real handicap for some real fun unless you're a hard ball racer. Come join the fun and leave all your stredd on the track.
The RRDI members will be leaving Raleigh for VIR on Friday morning around 9:00 o'clock. We'll meet for breakfast around 7:30 at the Cracker Barrel in Morrisville and then leave from Briar's Creek shopping center around 9:00. If you want to eat breakfast with us that's great, if you don't then be out in front of the Caribou Coffee, 8201 Brier Creek Pkwy, Raleigh, NC at 8:30. Please fill up with gas before you get there and be ready to roll out for VIR by 8:30. The drive up is great and takes about an hour and 20 minutes from Raleigh. Any questions or suggestions, post'em here."

Come on guys, take a sick day! You need some RX medication for the holidays! This is much more fun than "parade" laps we take on race days where you have mini vans, motor homes, trucks, vans, sunday drivers, picture takers and so on and so forth on the track keeping you under 50! There's been a few times we've hit 95 on the back straight at these things and a 30 min session is quite a drive on a 4.2 mile road course. You bought the dang car to drive so go somewhere you can drive it!!!!

We have 8 people committed to driving up to VIR next Friday morning, it breaks out to 4 RX8s and 4 RX7 as of today. Come join the fun and one of the best road racing venues in the US. The only place better on this planet is the Nuringburgring!

Hey I'm there man! Took the day off from work, got a babysitter for the kids so I will have the Misses with me. We will meet you guys at the place where they serve coffee to mooses. Can we really open up the cars on the straights? I want to hit 145!

Stay tuned to your favorite weather guesser, they have been know to change their minds. The weather channel's forecast for the Roxboro-Danville area calls for a 30% chance of rain/snow showers for Friday, highs in low 40s while Thursday looks like low 40s and a 10% chance of percip. Or you could say there is a 70% chance of no precip on Friday and cold air is good for the turbos. If its freezing rain on Thursday night and Friday morning we'll definitely call this thing off and hope VIR can reschedule just stay tuned and see what happens.
Lance glad to hear you're gonna make it. Yes, you might be able to hit 145 but no tellin' what else you'll hit when you leave the track on the corner. Hope the weather cooperates. See you at Caribou Friday morning.

This always seems to be my luck...every time I take a day off of work, I always end up having to stay home for some reason. I hope the weather ****'s got this forecast wrong.
Hey Lance, if this thing falls through...just remember you got a babysitter for the kiddos!

Well if there's freezing rain, then there will be no babysitter. The mother-in-law doesn't drive in those conditions.
Bert keep us posted about Friday, I take it you have contacts at VIR. If the weather sucks then hopefully they will reschedule for next Friday or so.

Right now it's looking like an 80% chance of rain in the AM but then clear sky's in the PM. The weather man still dont know for sure though. Guess we will have to wait until friday to see. At least the freezing rain is out of the frocast

From the NWS: A chance of rain before 10am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high around 46. North wind between 9 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

If Formula 1 can race in the rain.....why can't we!?!?! This sucks, I sacrificed two virgins and a chicken to get off this Friday! No way in the world I can make it next Friday, we'll be too busy in the shop for me to take off. So....I want pics, video, some dirt from the track and a G.I. Joe with the kung fu grip!

Sorry guys, I hate they postponed this event a week. I know how hard it'll be this time of year to get up there next Friday. I'll check their website tonight just in case they change their minds but I don't think that would be a smart thing to do after their announcement today. We'll see who can make it up there next Friday.
Remeber that there will still be a Drive-In at the Char Grill on Saturday evening, the weather won't discourage us from gathering, circling the rotaries and staying warm all night! See y'all Saturday.

So far we have Nic and Lance going up from the RRDI for the Holiday Laps driving tomorrow at VIR. Anyone else planning on caravanning up with us? Great day for driving, then driving fast! Post here so we'll know to expect you and don't leave the Caribou Coffee Shop before you get there.
