WhiteRex and I met with some other fine folks from the FLRX8Club as well as the local Miata troops this week and started organizing for a Saturday, June 3rd meeting in Jacksonville for the RX8 owners (The Miata folks were there for moral support and to offer suggestions, and as friends).

Tentative plans are:
1) Make a test and tune available at a local road course (for a small fee)
2) An "introduction to autocross" type class
3) A show and shine at Doug and Busters restaraunt
4) A buffet style meal at said restaraunt (again for a fee, sorry).
5) Some sort of coverage by the local Times Union
6) Some form of door prizes for showing up


We'll be getting together more details, hotel lists, firming up locations and event times and costs, and making this information available for everyone via this thread during the week of 2006-05-01.

In the meantime, IF you are planning to attend this event, please place your name in this list. We need to get a base number so we can determine how much things will cost:

We are getting the details worked out, will have the final plans in the next few days. It IS still a go for June 3rd, sorry mauroavella. The venue has changed however. It will be at Mazdacity in Orange Park, like I said, final adgenda in a few days.

 

I have tried to make a few of these but I either get there to late or something comes up and I can't go.... maybe Morgan can help me get the wife out the door ontime and remind me I have to be in Jax on that Saturday..... So for now.....

If you live in Jacksonville, we can do the road course another time... Its not going to work out this time though.

I can't wait for the wedding!! You have no idea how excited I am!!! It's going to be so awesome to watch two good friends getting married! eeek!! I can't wait!! All this pre-planning crap is making me so excited.

and i have SO seen Julie in her dress and you have NO idea how perfect she is in it!!

Here is the somewhat loosely-structured agenda for the meeting:

June 2nd, Friday

8:30pm Unhosted meet and greet at Bennigans in Orange Park near 295 and Blanding
Blvd. (Walking distance to closest hotel) .


June 3rd, Saturday

1:00pm Show and shine at Mazda City in Orange Park (also near 295 and Blanding)
Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Soft drinks, etc will be provided. (Thank you Mazda City!!!!!!)
This is on a dealers lot, so no alcoholic beverages (?)

WhiteRex is going to see if we can get Buddy Club to come out and show their new
body kits for the RX8.

A giveaway will occur, with the age-old lottery system (names in a hat, drawn until the
goodies have all been given away). We have some neat stuff so far, and some more
neat stuff is anticipated.

Later in the afternoon if anyone wants to tweak or install or whatever, Whiterex has
offered to let us use the garage at his house.
Note - garage not to be used in lieu of a hotel room.




We would love to see as many of you Florida and Georgia RX8s show up, just to see
how much attention we can get. We know there are a bunch of RX8s out there, now we
just need to get them to wake up and join the group.


We wanted the track time for test and tune to work out, but did not happen this time. We'll work on that for next time.

 

UPDATE- I met with the folks from buddyclub2 today. They will be attending the meet this saturday as well. They agreed to give us some stuff to raffle off(tee shirts, stickers, and a CF split front lip!). Mazda is going to throw a few items in the raffle as well. Should be fun.

Jacksonville-based aftermarket body mod and etc developers. Sounds like they are working on getting into suspensions and other goodies. All you '8 owners out there should give them a word of encouragement!

They should be showing up at the meet with some ideas. They don't have a published kit for the '8 yet, but we expect one soon. This company not to be confused with some off-shore imitators with similar names.

And, all you northeast florida folks, come on out. We should have a dandy time!
