Moving to Columbia, SC??
My wife and I are thinking about moving to Columbia, South Carolina. We love the location and never really been there before, but we plan on making a trip there this summer to check everything out. We have been doing a lot of research on the city and feel like its a great fit for us, but we would just like to get some locals opinions on the city before we make the trip.
We were wondering where is a good, affordable place to live. Also, what parts of the city is best to live in and with the most activities.
Also, is there an 8 community there? There is a close knit one here in the Cincinnati / Indy area where I have made a lot of friends. So I am curious if there is the same thing.
If you guys can help, that would be awesome.
Thanks,
Jeff

I'm in Florence, an hour east on I-20, and while I cant speak much on the specifics of where to live, there is a fairly active rotary group. Its mostly RX-7s, but there are some 8's too. There are monthly meets that usually end up in Columbia or upstate.

Personally, I think Columbia is a dump unless you live in a smaller outskirt town. Plus, it gets miserably hot there. But then again, I am biased being a Tiger fan I have some friends that live there or have lived there before. It was about equal, some liked it, some hated it. My aunt and uncle live in Lexington which is just outside of Columbia.

My wife and I dont mind the hot weather since it get up in the 90s here during the summer time. We just are sick and tired of the snow and col weather here. We are looking for something different.
Would you consider Columbia to be a wealthy city or no? Because my wife is a CFP and is either looking to start her own business or going into another firm down there.

Columbia
If you're looking to move to SC, I'd say come to Greenville. It's about 2 hours from Columbia, Atlanta and Charlotte. It's a beautiful city and if you ever get a desire to enjoy the snow in the winter the NC mountains are just about 2 hours north.
It also has a lot of International businesses in the area: BMW, Michelin, Nissan, Fluor, Budweiser, etc.

Dude I didnt know you were married. Last I heard you just found a new g/f. But then again we only meet a couple times and I could be way off my rocker. I'll most likely be moving to the Charlotte area. Havent decided where I'll be staying though.
