MRCCFL Tampa Bay Area Road Rally, BBQ and more 7/24
#27
Final Rally Details
Meeting Time- 10:00 AM sharp, Saturday July 24, 2004
Meeting Place- Publix between Florida Ave and Nebraska Ave. This is just south of the Business US 41 and US 41 (Florida/Nebraska) split. This link will be updated to reflect the added directions very soon. We will meet at the northeastern corner of the parking lot.
I intend to run on time. First car will be rolling out around 10:15-10:20. If you are arriving from out of town and wish to preregister, so that I have your information, please contact me. I would actually advise everyone to preregister, out of town or local, MRCCFL member or not. If not an MRCCFL member, I can collect the $5 rally fee that morning.
Depending on turnout, the rally will consist of
a) a two stage timed rally, with a third stage non-timed group caravan to Philippe Park. Only the first two stages will be used to compute the rally scores and winners.
OR
b) a three stage timed rally, with all stages being used to compute rally scores and winners.
The larger the group, the more likely we will go with plan A; the smaller the group, we will go with plan B. I will make this decision that morning and inform you all at the driver's meeting.
That wraps up the rally. We will end at the park, break for food, have a presentation for the rally results and trophies, and then the two promised discussions from Jeff Gladish and myself.
The BBQ at Philippe Park can start before the rally arrives. I will announce that exact time later this weekend and any other pertinent information.
And finally, the HYPE.

We're less than two weeks away now.
A couple of quick notes. You don't need to bring your rotary powered car to the rally or BBQ if you don't want to, or if you're not able to. I know a lot of us have ongoing projects that require the fun cars to be in the garage.
The BBQ is at a public park. NO ALCOHOL, period, end of story.
Our menu has expanded. We will also be serving burgers, hot dogs and chicken in addition to pork. If you plan to eat our food (free for MRCCFL members, $5 if not an MRCCFL member), just please give me a heads up that you intend to. Private message me or email me at jerrylh3@tampabay.rr.com.
If running in the rally, please help me expedite the process by sending me the following information via private message or email (jerrylh3@tampabay.rr.com):
1. Driver's name
2. Navigator's name
3. Team Name (if you want one, we've had some interesting ones in the past)
4. Make, model, and color of car you will be driving. If driving an RX-7, please tell me what generation as well.
That's all for now. If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

so it seems this is getting closer. I'm just curious who all from here is going to be participating in this. I am planning on it but I am just curious who is going to take second place and beyond.

From my event co-coordinator, John Peppi:
The 7/24 MRCCFL Rally & BBQ will have attendee registration, both member and
nonmember. As part of registration, attendees will get a registration
badge. The registration badge is intended to accomplish two (2) things.
First, it will put names with faces, screen names with names, cars with
names and screen names, and gets people communicating. Second and most
important, it gets you to eat! Registration is necessary regardless if you
participate in the Rally / BBQ, or just the BBQ. If you email your
registration information prior to 7/24, a nicely printed registration badge
will await you. If you wait until 7/24, you get an ugly handwritten badge.
So please forward your registration information, avoiding the ugly
handwriting, to:
MRCCFL_BAYREGION@HOTMAIL.COM
Information to be included is as follows:
1. Driver Name and Passenger Name (Passenger if applicable)
2. Screen Names from any forums(Driver and Passenger)
3. From Where (Orlando, Miami, Atlanta, etc.)
4. Car ( Simple: RX-8, 93 R-1, 9O TII, 89 GTUs, 85 GLS SE, etc.)
5. Email Address
6. Member or Non-member
Items 5 and 6 with not be on the badge but are necessary for registration.
If you've already sent me (JerryLH3, jerrylh3@tampabay.rr.com, Jerry Harding) your info for rally preregistration or just to say you were coming, just please take another moment to send it to the email address listed. While I have your name, I didn't write down your screen name or know what info you want listed.
Thanks,
Jerry

Thanks for the info Jerry.
I will send anotther email per your instructions here.
It turns out my wife and navigator's wife are going to attend the picnic but not the rally (i think)
My wife was wondering if people were bringing their kids or if this was an adults only affair. We have a three year old and a 6 month old and she was not sure if she needed to arrange a sitter or if other kids were going to be there to bring them along

Well, what a great meet. Thanks to everyone who came, especially John and Myra Peppi for all their hard work, and Jeff Gladish for coming to give the talk about the seals of the rotary.
I counted 28 rotary cars at one point, plus maybe a few more that showed up in non-rotaries, so we had close to 40 people at the event.
The road rally had only five cars, and they all did well. Congratulations goes to Matt Patton and ET Medina, for winning. This board's own "greese", AKA Greg and his navigator Matt took home third place.
There was plenty of food to go around. It's a good thing we added chicken and burgers to the menu, because the only thing left was one unused pack of chicken.
Apparently I could have a future in meteorology if I wanted. After Jeff finished his talk, I told everyone that it may or may not rain during my talk, so I gave everyone five minutes to roll up windows, close sunroofs, or put up tops. Sure enough, five minutes after I said that, the rain finally came.
After my talk, most everyone left. A few of us stayed around to talk while we cleaned up.
Here's a few pictures. More can be found at http://www.mrccfl.com/tampa/index2.html
Rally winner Matt Patton on the left, myself in the middle, and Matt's Navigator ET Medina on the right:

Our shelter:
Quick identify this rare car!
I'll have the pictures I took up later.
Thanks again to all who came!
