I'd love to Don, but I won't be instructing that weekend. I'm running time trails, so I won't have time to instruct and that, too. I have to keep some free time in case I have to work on my car. If I were instructing, I couldn't do that.

You're certainly welcome to ride with me for a session, if you'd like. We can use the communicator. There's nothing like coming under the bridge and going blind into turn 12 and exiting at ~110. Wow! That'll get your attention!

Rob is coming, too, but I think he might be racing.

Awesome! Count me in for another ride in your vette. There's something about strapping into a 5 point harness that really gets the blood running. I do look forward to turn 12 and the entrance to 10A. So you are running Time Trials and Rob is racing. I should be able to get some shots of you guys in my free time. I look forward to seeing you all again.

I found out today I'm moving up to HPDE2. So, my son Kevin will be driving my car in HPDE1 and me in 2. This should be fun. I bet my little silver bullet will be gasping for a breath of cool air and the brakes will be fried. Poor baby!

I gave Kevin, NASA RA August for his 20th birthday present.

Silver--do me a favor. careful with your car dude! back to back runs on RA in Aug(it will really be HOT) will not let your tires, brakes or engine cool any! And it will add up to about 500 miles of hard running in a short period of time.
back to back runs will be a good 40 minutes on the track--train your son about the value of cool down laps--and if you dont have some r compunds it may be a good time to get them now as the 040's and 40 minuets on RA in August will not be fun. The tires will toast. New driver needs good rubber under him also.
May even want to consider changing oil between Saturday and Sunday also,
You do have track pads dont ya? The last time I ran RA (cant remember the month ) my calipers got so hot the paint started blistering off--RA is hard on the brakes.
Talk to Charles man--get advice for this endoro run! You dont have gauges and Im telling you temps CAN be a problem. Want to keep you, your son and that beatiful car around for a LONG time.
Maybe the 1 and 2 sessions will be split.
whoa Boy!

OK, Thanks OD. I'm looking into a set of Toyo R-1s, I do have HP Plus pads. I will instruct him on the cool down laps. I will be running a pre-mix of 4 oz. as per Charlie. Wouldn't count on the sessions being split up but I think I will stress to our instructor or instructors that we may need two cool down laps for both of us (anticipate last lap) and maybe wait till the third lap to crank it up. That should help the car out a good bit.

The alternative is to let him drive his 96 Maxima (auto) with 150K+ miles and I really don't think that is a good alternative.

when the schedule comes out, pay close attention to it. Usually, well in the past, DE 1 & 2 are not always back to back, and you might have a low occurance of that. But it will happen. And that will be tough on the car. You are a brave man, letting your son drive the 8 on track. I would be stressed out.

I don't think he will push it that hard and i'm going to let him get some seat time with me before he gets it on the track. (fingers crossed)

Just think what it will mean to him. That's more important to me. When we are sitting back at the resturant, eating our stake and talking about the days events, he will be able to share with me the excitement he had and it will be worth every penny it cost and I'm sure the car will handel it OK. I'm more worried about the way it's going to handel with me driving it because I'm beginning to push it more and more.

I'll take the chance. He want's to get a S2K and doesn't want to wait till he gets it to learn to drive. So, I'll share mine. Wish my dad would have done something like that for me when I was growing up!

Silver - I think that is the most awesome gift you can give Kevin. Wow, If my dad ever did something like that when I was a kid, I'd be a real track ho today.

Good deal! He'll appreciate it for a long time and will remember it the rest of his life.

I bring my son to the track twice a year and we share my car. I'm his instructor and it works real well.

The first couple of times at the track, I had a hard time making him go fast enough and brake as hard as he should. He's now fast and soloed after the first session at events. He's fast enough on the throttle, but he lacks the confidence to brake really hard, but that's the last talent everyone developes.

It's been fun watching him progress and achieve goals I've set for him. It's even more fun, after the day is over and we're sitting in the paddock, enjoying a couple of adult beverages with other track friends and we're all rehashing the events of the day as though it was Lemans or the Indy 500.

These bonds last a lifetime!

Silver--didnt mean to reduce the magnitude of this event with your son-- what you re doing is good--real good. It will be one of those unforgettable times.
When i was talking about cool down laps --i didnt mean at the end of the session--no I mean that while you are on the track if you feel the brakes not stopping as good, the tires not gripping as well--slow the car down for a lap and let the systems recup. I had to do that when I was running the o40's at RA.

Thanks OD, I really don't want my foot dissapearing into the floorboard. I will be paying close attention to that. I really do appreciate your valid concerns.

Speaking of brakes... Charlie just put on my stainless brake lines. They seems much firmer now. I think I'm going to hold off for the rest of the year on mods so the coil overs will have to wait till next season. I will be getting a set of tires though. I will just concentrate on the driver for the rest of this year.

OD, are you driving this one?

BTW Silver, that's one of the coolest gifts you could give your son. If you keep this up, you'll be like John and Jake English going to track days together on weekends and instructing others. You're a hell of a guy, no matter what the other guys in the club say!

You just have to help us indoctrinate him into the club like we do all of our other noobs. We should get him a pink t-shirt that says, "Track Virgin" on it.

Pink isn't for virgins only. I had a pink wristband and windshield sticker for HPDE3 @ Rockingham. Thought I would share. Besides, it matched the GA RX8 Club tanktop I stole from my daughter.

Hey Silver,
Nope, not driving this one. May ride up though and watch. It's too hot for me in August. I'm waiting til later in the year. More than not I will do the Roebling at the end of September and i really would like to do RA again but I havent looked at the schecule to see if NASA has one. If not I may do another association for RA before 2007. It sure is hard too wait!
