i hear that an irs on the stang is actually slower than a live axle with the griggs. Seems there is a lot of high center roll in that car that only griggs can correct. also the front suspension may need some work since it was designed for a compact car. you have your work cut out for ya--but you are stepping into something i know a little about (the old v/8. Doing a crate motor? Summit as a good choice. if you turbo you will need at least 3 pcv's !going to backset the motor any or does rules allow that? It may have already been done if it was a drag car. yea baby old iron!

Yeah, I have some work ahead of me. I can't wait, actually, to get started. I may do a 94 GT instead, as I found a complete car (blown motor), for 1200bucks. I will then just griggs it up (as you mentioned), and cage it up. Strip it, and boost it. If things go the way I want, I will have a track car with @550whp, and grip for days. I can't wait to be in a real race car again.

However, a big part of me wonders what the Evo woudl have done with the larger turbo. I just can't bring myself to cage a perfectly good street car.

That, my friend, is a sound decision. I've been rolling the same thought through my mind for a year now about doing that to my Z06, and finally decided to just buy an old T1 car when I want a race car.

I don't think you can have an IRS car in American Iron. I think they'll class you in AI Extreme. But it should be fun anyway.

Well, I got the go ahead to drive this event too. Have I told you I have a wonderful wife?!?

That being said, I started installing the water and oil temp gauges and the rear adjustable struts went in this evening. The rear struts made a great difference too as the springs were already there.... much firmer. So, the RX-7 will be coming to Road Atlanta in August!

I'll more than likely sign up for HPDE 2 instead of 3 since the car isn't a horsepower car at all. Plus, I'll be learning how to drive it too, so I kind of feel like I'm taking a couple steps back with an underpowered old car. But, I'm really excited now. I have to continue to make the car reliable and safe. I don't think I'll have time for the cage by then, but I'm working on a little "project." I'm trying to put together a budget bullet-cam type in-car camera system that will record from different parts of the car. I should be able to point the bullet cam forward or reverse and move it to different parts of the car like the fenders or looking at the driver.

By August:

New Front Brembo Rotors & Hawk HP+ Pads (already in hand)
Install Gauges (started measurements for the center console)
Camber Plates (from ReSpeed - Russ Marshall (Orange Crush) uses these)
Install Bullet Cam/Digital Recorder and Mounting
Alignment

Oh Crap, now I'm getting nervous and excited all at the same time....

OD, that's great news. It just wasn't going to be the same without you.

I have officially given up two spots in the Plash Motel (Kevin and Me). Kurt Bob will take one spot and OD, if you are coming by yourself you may want to take the other one.

I'm getting really excited and can't wait for this event. It will be my first run in HPDE2.

yeah, I have it, got it June 1st. there is nothing new that you can notice, other than a slightly smoother idle. With the A/C on it is better, a tad higher than it used to be, and with the A/C off, it is the same, a little higher, and a lot smoother. It bogs down a bit when you are coming to a stop, that first split second, but after that it is fine. I would suggest getting it, since it is going to be a recall, and even thought you don't have trouble related to the reason it is being released now, you might in the future.

See you guys in a couple weeks...woohoo!

I'm only posting this here because I think TA will have the best chance to see it.

Here's some in-car of his car. From behind. It's at the Rock and the driver is in a Spec Cobra. There's about 2:45 minutes of TA in front of him.

Man, that Cobra has got some serious torque. Interesting seeing TA from the rear. Also interesting seeing just how little power the RX-8 has compared to a ground pounder like that. Good vid Lego. Thanks.
