Yea, I do know how hot it's going to be. I was just talking with Charlie and he brought up a VERY IMPORTANT note.

START YOUR HYDRATION TODAY OR TOMORROW!
Don't wait till you get to the track.

I purchased a couple packages of water and I will be drinking like a fish from now through the weekend.

Now for the car, I talked with Charlie also about the car and temps. At 230 your car is still OK but if it reaches 240... it's shut down time baby! So, OD and I will be keeping a close eye on the temps and keep you guys up on what to expect. I think that all of you guys should have gauges and should consider that for your next mod. This is going to be a great weekend to find out just what our cars will handle in the extreme heat.

(Charlie corrected this in a post below: 230 is the cut off instead of 240)

agreed---I think with driving wisely engine temps are going to be ok---the time to watch close is if we get a red flag and have to stop without a cooldown lap. Thats when it gets close.
Another thing is tires and brakes. the asphlat temp at my home today was 137F.
Go figue.
I may end up getting a room--hell with camping in Hell. Lego? You need somewhere?
You dont snore ---right? It is Ok to go Zoom-Zoom in your sleep

If we are gonna bag the camping idea, let me know. I am not opposed to A/C - at all - really I am not. Which hotel?

I'm going to be doing an oil change in the next couple of days. I've heard some of you guys going with a different weight than the 5W20 because of the heat. Wondering if I should try something different. Maybe I should do something coolant wise as well. Right now I just have whatever came in it from the factory.

If that's what you want to do, then you have my vote! Just let me know. I bet we'll have the whole gang there sleeping on the floor before too long.

I went with 5w30 instead of the OEM 5w20. I'm not mixing anything with the coolant.

If you're going to change your coolant, I'd recommend Water and Water Wetter. That's what the race cars (ROAR and other Grand Am Cars) use and it's got better cooling properties than a glycol mixture. The specific heat of water is higher than the specific heat of ethylene glycol. The only issue is boiling point, where the boiling point will increase as glycol is added.

Water alone has better cooling ability than glycol/water. Glycol's main advantage is it's low freezing point, which in August, in the South, is a moot point. The RX-7 has pure water in the radiator.

hey OMS, what kind of temps did you see at CMP, while it was not 100 degrees there, it was in the high 80's. just curious.

At 267 degrees, the engine will die. Clarified by experience.

Thanks Charlie.

L8, I never saw temps getting any higher than normal daily driving. Actually the temps in rush hour traffic are higher. I just remember being very satisified there was not any issue at Roebling. I'll try to document it this weekend.

I have done RR at 100F and coolant temp never over 215--oil temps around 22-230
Lego i got a room at the best western in braselton--$87 a night--i will count you in.It is right across the exit where we come off I 85.
i mix my coolant at 70%water and 30% coolant--i believe the water pump has to have a little lubrication supplied by the gycol? Underdrive pulley helps a little with cavitation. We will watch the temps.
Actually i am more concerned about brakes and tires. I may even have a crack in one front rotor--I have to get someone else to look at it. Going to gte this evening

Sorry I could not camp man---it is just staying too hot at night for me.
Can you get some pics of those skeeters? Maybe we can build a skeeter trap and have a mascot?
Well --just to remind all(probably dont need it but old men have to do something
preliminary track prep revealed a little problem for me. It caused me to have to cancel my alignment at GTE, so I will be running the wheels in whatever direction they are going in now.
I was putting my brand new and so purdy carbotech xp 8's on and lo and behold I saw a crack in a front brake disc. Appears to be surface, but it is a straight line from one edge to the next. Well----****!! No choice here. Just thinking about braking into turn 10 with this thing on the front almost makes me want to talk to a therapist.
So I called another therapist---MAzmart. They have 2 and I am getting them overnighted to me. The shipping is killing me but by whenI figue the gas and the time to go get them myself I come out a little ahead.
So almost new rotors and brand new pads willl help this old man stop.
Midpipe is on--almost forgot how good it sounds, just swap out my front rotors and all is good.
I am starting to get excited!
