Group 1 here....no timing gear...just a camera mount (I hope) and my GtechRR to see exactly what kinda G's one pulls on this track and to see how well I manage balance.....

tIM,
Cant wait to see that car of yours run. Timing? They do have transponders you can rent I believe. But , no I havent timed a single lap.
I signed up for h2 class but as I understand 1 and 2 are kinda the same.
My G meter will be a 3/4 full plastic cup of water. If it sloshes out then thats the G's I'm looking for!
Waffle house diversity group----Great Idea! Follow up at Wall Mart for advanced training!
I also have been reading that worn tires are actually better on the track than new ones. I know in the old days of dirt track racing my Dad used to shave his tires. With this in mind I think I will leave my tires with 17000 on them on. Thoughts?
Anyone going to try the 103-104 octane gas at the track this time?

As Olddragger said - only 4 weeks to go. I need to make an appointment with Charlie to get an oil change and have a look under the car to make sure it is track worthy. I think it is time to start being meticulous around maintenance items like making sure everything is tight etc. I also plan on flushing my brake fluid. I am going to buy some good DOT4 and have that put in.

As for the southern edjumacation of Charles, there is hope for him. I came to Georgia in 85 from overseas and quickly assimilated. If memory serves me correctly my first meal was at a Po Folks (now just Folks) with lots of sweet tea. My second meal was Krystals at 1am after a few drinks at an Athens watering hole. After that I was saying "fixin' to" and "y'all" like a native son., only with a slight slur instead of a drawl.

Kinda frustrated today since the 8 is dirty but we are slated for 3 days of rain. Maybe I'll just clean the brake dust off the wheels and polish the RB tips.

Good Morning, Y'all! See, I've been to the Waffle House a time or two on my way to Daytona Beach. I have had a lifetime friend who hails from Kentucky and I was surprised at how quickly I adopted his drawl when we were kids. It comes out from time to time. His mom is a sweetheart.

Man, you guys gave me a pounding, this time with the jokes . Keep 'em coming but remember I am a quick wit and there will be cameras present during our weekend of racing. Turnabout is fair play. :p

I'm HPDE1, car number 1. What numbers do you guys have and what do you suggest I do for my number(besides hand it over to a better driver)?

O.D., the O2 sensor should bolt right in place with a 22mm wrench. Yes the high-flow makes a difference but the replacement pipe makes a bigger difference, like 15 h.p., or so. So I get to be an honorary member just for turning a wrench or two on a Southern boy's car? Well you boys are in luck even if y'all are drivin' Mopars as I am an old GTX owner from way back. See, I bought my first car when I was 14(the GTX) and drove it to school on Fridays to work on in auto shop. It wasn't the prettiest car as it had seen it's fair share of abuse and the original 440 was removed with a 383 put in place. The car still reached 150 mph and that Corvette was surprised as hell to see a fender-flappin' hunk of junk keep up with him.

I have the G-tech comp, the new one, but will they ley you on the track with it since it's not bolted down, just suction cupped to the front window? I'll be adding some of the higher octane fuel to the mixture to be on the safe side of the detontation issue when the car heats up after a few hard laps.

I think they will probaly let the g tech in. I would love to rent one for a session.
Charles we pound ya because you are almost one of us. AND you are already writing "Ya'll"!
I shy away from cameras --old habits
Nabil--You are southern.
Since I am running stage 2 cz unit now I think I am going to try a tank of the high octane. It will be open wont it? I cant imagine that it wont be.
I AM PUMPED!

For those of you unable to reserve at the Scottish Inn, just across the Interstate I was able to book at the Comfort Inn. They are within 5/8ths of a mole from each other.

My number is 53.

4 weeks and a wake-up call.

Something to do on Friday morning March 18th.

I just signed up for the auto show in motion on Friday March 18th at 9:30am. If anyone is taking Friday off, this should be fun. Go to http://www.autoshowinmotion.com to sign up. Maybe 9:30am is too early? I dunno... Wanted enough time to flog some GM cars, then head to Mazcare. Looks like there will be a CTS-V and Corvettes (hopefully a new Z06).

Let's sign up for 11:00am. That puts you in Atlanta well after morning rush hour and gives us plenty of time to have fun with a Z06 before heading to Mazcare. I am going to go and change my sign up time now...

Go for it Lego.....I'm tapped out after adding all the suspension stuff......

Tim,

I'm bringing my laptop along to dump the data from the gtech after each session. If yours is a gtech RR, I can do the same for you.

Film and take lots of photos. We can add this to the mounds of other photos and videos. My father and I are meeting my brother for lunch downtown around 1:00 and then heading towards Mazcare around 3:00 or 4:00.....have fun you two.....

mazcare at 3-4 pm sounds good to me as well. I dont want to get in Charles way before his quitting time. CRH what time do you think you will arriving? My day is flexable and I can be there anytime.
We are at the Scott, rooms are confirmed.(You guys).
No nos for me. I already have the flywheel. But, I can offer track time with the cz stage 2 map running and then track time without it. Would that be of interest?
How is everyones tires? I am torn between mounting some new ones or leaving the old ones on. Some say the worn tires will be better. Decisions decisions.
I agree with you Nabil new brake fluid for me AND I hope to have the Mazdaspeed front stut brace on as well. We will see how much I win at poker.

I looked all over the pages for how much it costs. Damn, that event looks like it's so cool it would have to cost something. This is wonderful.

At a zero cost, it is quite affordable. In fact, I could do it twice and still stay within my budget

No more mods for me either at this time. I will eventually do the flywheel but it has been an expensive Dec, Jan, Feb so I have to be cool for a while and learn to drive what I have.

Olddragger - my tires at 10K have ~40% tread left. I think they will be fine for this one event. I think the problem with older tires is related to heat cycles more than tread depth though. Less tread depth means no rubber blocks squirming underneath you. But, as the tires get older and have been given repeated workouts like at previous track days, they have more heat cycles. This makes them harder and less grippy. I am no authority on this and could be mistaken but I think I read about this somewhere.

Why don't you meet me and Lego for the autoshowinmotion thing Friday morning at the Ted? It will be fun. Heck, why doesn't everyone come? We can warm up on a CTS-V...

Great, mine is that version as well. I was gonig to bring my laptop but datalog some runs, but doubt that I would be able to use it since it would be loose in the cabin.

As far as tires, I'm not going to be the jinx and say anything about the weather

That is correct about tires. As rubber gets hot and cools (heat cylce) it cools to a harder state than it was before. That's why you'll hear used race tires having "X" number of heat cylces in them. The stickiness is the softness of the rubber when tires warm up. The stickier the tire also usually means the less life it has since it will wear quicker since it is a softer rubber compound. Tires with 17K on them may still be sticky. I think the OEM Bridgestones have decent milage on them. I had the dunlops on mine which were really sticky, but I got wider tires when I got the new wheels. I still have the EOM tires in my shed.

I plan on being at Mazcare between 1-2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. If nobody is going to get a fly or nitrous installed, let me know. I had two hits on my p.m. regarding the matter but I think those two have changed their minds. With less than a month to go, I guess some changes will occur before everything settles down. Plenty of time for minds to change one way or the other. I think I may shower after my shift at work, which lets out at midnight, then hit the road right away. Drive a few hours, then rest a bit and keep it up until I get there. My prior life as a rock star prepared me well for the pulling of all-nighters.
