Hey guys I'm going to try and make it to this. I did the panoz 3 day school up there last summer and had a ball. I guess that puts me in the 2nd group class or w/e. I just got my jic coilovers on a month ago so I cant wait to put them to the test on the track and be able to play with the dampering and get some real feedback!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Just got home from dinner and I can't believe how GREAT my 8 is. Even though, I really dug my 6, there's no substitution for RWD. What's going on at Road Atlanta in March?

Sounds fun, but not sure if I can afford it right now. My children's re-enrollment fees for Christian school are due in February, $1500...OUCH!!!

Charlie,
Thats great news man. I will call you Monday and work out the logistic's of this car character changing mod . I have spoke with some other forums members and have some interesting numbers concerning the flywheel(power wise). Man the numbers are growing! I think we may open a few eyes! And Charlie by the way you have to come man!

It'll be interesting to see how we all do since everyone has differently modded cars. I still think that I'm the barrier still in this car's performance. I'm going to work on myself a little more before dropping some coin to make it faster. I have a feeling I'm going to passed a lot during the March event.
I have decided I'm taking the racing tires though. I'm curious to see how they will do at high speed. Definitely keeping DCS on the WHOLE time.

Lego, did you ever make any connections about writing an article? Just wondering. Publishing is not required but it would be really nice to see such a huge qty of 8's represented in a magazine. My main interest is just having a great time and putting together a great package for us to enjoy and show off.

Anyone know if this is a spectator event or is it closed to participants, family and friends like the last event?

Later this weekend I will be making the financial commitment and actually signing up for this thing. Even if the turbo install doesn't go well I will be attending.

Thats great news Ray, and as previously stated, just register and show up,dont be concerned about a place to stay etc. Later, as the day gets closer we will make a more detailed plan about when and where to met up etc. Point of possible interest for you. There is 104 leaded octane gas is available at Road Atlanta.Just a thought, but that may help you try that 75 shot without having to adjust the timing? (if the turbo etc doesnt work out)
To the best of my knowledge this has the making of the largest gathering of rx8's on a track. All you business minded people, what do you think about some sponsership possibilities? Since this is legally listed as a high performance driving school(not a race hehe) do you think there may be some interest in a low cost sponsership from a local Madaspeed dealership or such?
Do we want to go there?
Lego good point about the mod between the steering wheel and the seat. I finally have gotten a little more comfortable with turn 12. Note: "little". I now I have to fine the sweet spot on turn 1 in 4th gear instead of 3nd. I just get a little excited approaching a turn at 110mph and my entry speed is not what the car is capable off! Instead it is in the range of my feelings of mortality. I usually hear myself saying something like "Dayyymmnn! oh my GOD, oh my GOD, oh my GODDD---!" on both turn 12 and entry into turn 1. When the turn is complete I then hear myself saying "YeeeeeHaaaa! " and "What is that funny smell?"
March 19th is to far away.

I'll be talking to someone this week. I'll let you know. I've been out of town for the past week, so I'm getting caught up. I should be able to let you know soon.

Greetings Mazda people! I am keeping my butt indoors today along with my RX8. My driveway is a sheet of ice. Hope all of you are doing well.

Charlie posted that his insurance doesn't cover him on track so I took that to mean he may not go. But then again, I am not sure. Work on him y'all. He did say we are definatly doing the open house at Mazcare on Friday. I will probably schedule any routine maintenance earlier that week to allow the out of towners more opportunity to get their cars up on the rack there for tech and the like.

As far as I know, the NASA weekends are open to spectators. Non-NASA members pay a nominal fee (I think it was $5).

I agree with Lego on the limiting factor being the driver rather than the car. More power would help out on the straights but the biggest factor is corner exit. If you figure your corner exit is 5mph faster, you can enter the braking zone +5mph faster as well giving quite an advantage. How much extra hp do you need to build up an extra 5mph? The guy driving the silver Turbo 911 was hitting 135mph into the braking zone for 10A according to a conversation I had with him. I was at 122-125. So better exit from turn 7 may put me at 130ish on the back straight. Additionally, in watching some of my in-car video from December, my best laps were around 2 minutes flat. I researched the NASA site to see results for the races at the last event at Road Atlanta and believe it or not, if I can shave off 5 seconds, I would have been able to hang with seasoned racers in the small bore categories and to be not too far behind some large bore guys. I am sure that my skills can be increased to a point that shaving 10 seconds off is possible without changing the car.

GRT8 - did you wake up this morning and go into your garage to just look at your car? I still do that sometimes. Please keep in touch with us via this thread and at least join us for the open house at Mazcare on March 18th. You can also come out and spectate if you are interested. I am sure we would all like to at least meet you.

Did anyone make a posting on RX7Club.com for this event?

Another idea... We should get some T-shirts made up. I figure we can get some logos on them from the RX8Club.com, Racing Beat, Tein, RX8Store, Mazcare etc. Does anyone want to volunteer to contact those folks to see if they would kick in a few bucks to defray the cost?

This has been a long post... sorry :D

Nabil

Yeah, I've been looking at'er all day except I don't have a garage. She's all iced over outside just waiting for some sunshine. I had my oil changed at Mazcare two weeks ago in my 6 and talked w/ Charlie for a while.

In fact, I called him to let him know I got the 8 and had a few break-in questions for him.

Yep, it sure is. We lost power about an hour ago. I had to crank my generator. Thank you Honda!

as far as coverage magazine-wise, someone can get together with the pictures and write a narrative and send it to RX-Tuner magazine. Can't hurt and I always like reading articles about rotaries at the track.
I would have thought the 911 would have hit a a faster speed in the back straight.

I'll post something on the rx7club.com site as well. Need to get them registered before they start to fill up 1 and 2.

Tim

Hey gang,

I just wanted to let you know that I'm not signed up yet, and might not. March is beginning to look really busy for my family, and something's got to give. I plan on doing Talladega on March 26th, with the Peachtree Miata club. My wife has let me know that she will probably be working weekends in March (meaning kid duty for me). On top of all that, I just found out that the first Solo 2 Divisional event is the same weekend as the NASA event. Yikes!

legocken...

Just viewed your profile. Were you in the Navy by chance? I'm just asking because you're a chemical engineer. Didn't know if you were a "nuke" in the nav.

From reading on NASA's website, for HPDE, you need a Snell rated helmet 95 or better. M95 or M2000 are acceptable. So, check the rating on the helmet as it must have a sticker or something to indicate it's rating. M95, M2000, SA95, or SA2000 seem to be OK. If in doubt, check the NASA website and post on teh forum there.
