You could see the rear end swinging out a bit right before the tires broke loose. Yikes!! It also didn't look like he was too upset until his roof caved and windshield broke. I officially withdraw my application. Just kidding.

Guys ,
In looking at the video, his approach/entrance speed was too fast. Also notice that he continued to try and correct the skid after he had left the track. This causes the outside of the tires to dig in the soft dirt and bingo--- turn over time! Correct course of action AFTER you have left the track onto soft dirt and you dont have any control is---- hands off the wheel. Easy to say hard to do. Too bad he wouldn even have hit the wall.
What kind of car was that?

Hey ,
Just spoke with Charlie at Mazcare today. He said he is coming on Saturday. He is off next week and chasing other car nuts in Florida somewhere(he told me the details but I forgot).
Anyway , he installed the act prolite flywheel and the rx 7 automatic counterweight and said it ran perfect. Total weight a tad over 13lbs. That is with bolts ,counterweight and flywheel. Charlie highly recommends the flywheel. Now part of the beauty of this set up is the flywheel is only $250. The counterweight he gets locally for a little over $50. Sum $300! Thats not installed of course. Still that is a real good price for a light flywheel! He also said the driveabilty is great--no problems.

I'll tell you guys what... I'll bring my tools and jacks and we can all get together and install a load of flywheels while at the track. If not then, we could do them at night in the hotel lot and not spill a drop of trans fluid. I have spent so much time under and around this car that even flywheel swaps are a cinch. We could use the A/V gear to document all of it while laying on our backs. Who's game? I can even get the part numbers for the counter, T/O, and input bearings.

Guys,
Hey, he may be serious! Hell, we all probaly have jacks, ramps and stands. The only thing I can think off that I dont have is that 60mm wrench they say you need to get the flywheel off!
Hey silvereight--you listening? Wouldn't that make a heck of a video story?! If it is my car we hold the keg til it's finished! I would hate to be standing next to my car on the stands and hear a "uhoh" from someone under my car!

you bastards are getting to me On the way back from some training I had near the airport, I swung in the parking lot of Team Mazda on Thorton Rd. and looked at the 8's they had on the lot. I've test drove one back when they came out, the wife did too...damn it, now i want one. Only down side would be the fact that I'd have to trade in either the 89 TII or 91 coupe (since the 93 isn't going anywhere).
The fit and finish on the 8 is just fantastic, how's it holding up?

GRT8,
You got your car from David at Team Mazda right? When I was there tonight (2/1/05) he said someone had just traded in his 6 for a nordic green 8 in the past week or so. BTW, if this has been brought up somewhere else on the 8 forum, don't club me to death, but I did notice Mazda did the same thing with the 8 that they did with the FD. First year model had a yellow paint scheme, but the 2nd year it was replaced with a white. The white looks beautiful. I wonder if I can trade the wife in instead of one of the 7's I'd probable come out better in the long haul!
The only thing I didn't like was the fact David, who enjoyed talking about the 8 and all the cool things it had to offer, didn't know much about the ECU flashes and which ones would be in the ecu for the 2005 models or the 2004 models they still had on the lot.

I am serious about the flywheel swaps. The only tool I don't have, which I could easily purchase beforehand, is the pilot bearing puller. Every other tool I have in my box(even the big socket and 3/4" drive breaker bar) and can bring with me except for a large floor jack. Remember, I did my own fly and clutch in my driveway, on my back, and in the rain. If we got 4 or 5 guys helping out we could knock each one out in less than 2 hours. Get the keg and 'que involved, it may take a little longer. That would be a cool photostory for RX Tuner, wouldn't it? Kick the idea around and make sure each one of us would still have enough track time.

Hey y'all (typing from cold Boston this morning). I am having withdrawals as I can't get online much when attending meetings. Catching up on this thread... This is a very interesting proposal from Mr CRH.
Tim - go for it. Trade/sell/barter - whatever it takes brother!
Got to go. Tallk amoungs yourselves. I'll give you a topic... The RX8 is both a road course monster and a drag car - discuss.
