I am following Denny's lead on the accomodations issue. It looks like I will have a couple other jobs to do.

That's cool.....we have time.....

I have now spent a week reading through the 7000 pages of notes, blurbs, threads on the ZEX system you did and the issues you ran into. Although I am still on the fence with this, I must say...DAMN....you have done one hell of a job. My hats off to you. You saw, you did, and you continue to thrill. Thank you for ALL of the notes, feedback, blood, sweat, and tears you put into this project RX of yours. You have and will continue to educate many. Thanks!

I will need to be able to dupe your videos using a DSR-20 to record to a 184 DV tape. This will make it much easier when I start the editing process. My office is only 20 minutes from the track so I could take the tapes in dupe and bring back to you guys on Saturday. I'm not sure how long you plan to stick around on Sunday. My office is in Lawrenceville, back toward Atlanta from RA. I'm open for suggestions.
I think it would be best to keep the web posted info to our online names rather than full names. I'll PM you all my info...

The hotel doesn't really matter to me. The Scottish Inn was cheap, so I'll more than likely go with that again. I just need a bed to sleep in. Its like a couple miles from the track so it's great. Exit 16 off 985 I think. $42/night.

So I have been looking online for ACT flywheels and counterweights. I see prices all over for 266 for the prolite flywheel. But the counter weight seems to be well beyond the $50 range. Anyone have a good lead on these items and the best prices out there?

I agree. Not a problem. I will not use any personal names for the online info. What am I supposed to use for Charles Hill? How about "Bat out of screaming hell"! :D

Charlie can get you a counterweight for around $60. From Mazda I think. Be careful on the flywheel. I ordered the one that Charlie got. I am not certain if that was the Prolite or the Streetlite. I do know the TOTAL weight of the flywheel, counterweight and the bolts was a little over 13lbs. The Prolite weight in at around 9lbs. I suspect that it may be too light for street use. I could be wrong. Also the price i paid for mine is compatable for the streetlite version.
Too light a flywheel will really mess up street driving.
Since I already had a gentlemans agreement with the Charlie/Mazcare crew concerning instillation I letting them install mine. It happens 2/9. I'll keep yall updated.

He's doing my TEINS 2/10.....my oh my, these little get togethers have been good business for Charlie and company.....:D

BTW - Charlie has the Prolite, the Streetlite with the counterweight will put you almost at the same weight as my MazdaSpeed flywheel.

I just saw youre latest note. 7lbs! 100shot! and dyno tuned? Damn dude! You tuning for the strip or road track?
You may want to leave the nos OFF while you are on the track. 100 horse jolt at the wrong time = Yiyyyyyyyy Momma! Remember we will have 104 octane available. Unleaded of course.
What do you think you will be pushing at the wheel 340+?
Silvereight I concur"Bat out of Hell" is very fitting!
For those of you that would like a modified airbox I will glady have instuctions and some cut plexiglass/template for you. See superscouts thread and that is what it looks like. plexaglass on top of the stock cut out airbox and a cone filter installed and behind the glass. Course you reroute the intake pipe also. to true cold air.
MAn this trip is taking off.
As far as hotels The Scott may be ok. It's inexpensive and conveinant for sure. It's clean also. We have time with that. If Saturday night turns into a cruise we may want to stay around tha mall of georgia.
Just a thought.
Anyone doing nos?

On the fence with the NOS install.....damn, i'm spending $ like I have it....heck sounds like Charles will have his hands full already with a couple flywheels.....hell, he's gonna spend half the weekend cleaning drool from us off of his ride.....

I hope Charlie lets us use his lifts and such.....

Damn, I was just kidding with my wife and I told her about all this NOS talk. She's encouraging me to do it! Damn I'm tempted. I'll do my tax return this weekend and see if Uncle Sam wants me to buy something for the 8.

So are most people getting a room at the scottish inn? I think they have a little local pizza joint on the right as you are going to the track (white building). We can get some pizza and head back to the Inn and work on the cars on Saturday night.

Like Mr Hill has said, "this could be like a old time hot rod get together's!" No problem with the airbox thingy.
Phlash I'm just getting what Charlie got and he says his is driveable without problems.
If it ends up with us working on the 8's in the parking lot someone better bring a 100" drop cord so we can have light.
Tim B ,I have stayed at The Scott once before and it was ok ,nothing fancy but clean and cheap. Plenty of places around to grab a bite to eat. It's ok by me.

When I get the turbo tuned to 7 psi it should add around 100 h.p. to the already 225 mhp(motivational h.p.) at the rear wheels. The 100 shot "should" total around 400-425, if all goes well. That's all a matter of mathematics at this point. Although I don't intend to use the "nos" on the courses I would like to point out that the use of nitrous is not a sudden surge like most would believe. Nitrous tends to magnify the torque curve the engine already has. There is a feeling of added power across the rpm band but when I hit 6K the barn doors fly open. That's no different than when N/A, just bigger numbers. Road racing is why I have decided on the turbo. I figure anybody running a 12 second 1/4 mile has plenty of power for course racing. Denny will be able to give all of you a first-hand description of what it is like to drive an 11 second RX-8 because he will be behind the wheel for a while due to his hospitality.

As far as the flywheel swaps and nitrous go, I enjoy demystifying the concepts of certain mods that are perceived as being complicated or "major". These are neither. When we all start the process those of you with prior experience will be pleased to learn that the RX-8 looks just like your favorite musclecar from the underside, at least as far as the transmission is concerned. A 55 shot of nitrous is the icing on the cake for the RX and will place the 1/4 mile time of even a stock version in the high 13's. Whoever chooses to have me do a nitrous install should plan on new tires, as well. You will get absolutely no traction in first and maybe even some spin going into second.

Doing the swaps/installs in the hotel parking lot may be a bit risky due to local ordinances. We may be better off doing them in the R/A lot or pit area Saturday morning or early evening. I'll bring the tools necessary and even the power cords, if need be. My tool box is not huge but I seem to have put together a box that covers 99% of the situations I have encountered and it still fits in my trunk. I would like to have those whose cars I'll be working on p.m. me so I can begin direct dialogue to ensure that all of the incidentals are covered and we have all of the parts that will be needed.

BTW, that write-up about the flywheel swap in the latest issue of RX Tuner should not serve to discourage those who want me to do one for them. That mechanic must have been an idiot to have not done it right the first time. The only way one can install the flywheel out of balance is to have omitted the keyway that mates the balancer to the e-shaft. That won't happen when we do the swaps.
