Indeed the grip in L8Apex's car was superb. The RT615s felt great from the passenger seat. So much so, I would buy them as a good tire for street/track duty. My buddy is getting a set for his Mustang too.
STF - I talked to Steve about my friends 'stang. It would be great if he could get to instruct him.

It is all in a properly setup suspension.

are these 18" or 17"s--are they already shaved and heated?
JB racing (out of GRM) deals in used track tires and I got mine with 75% thread left(with a little track rubber thrown in for free) for $65 apeice and with delivery it was $310. They where factory shaved and heat cycled before they where mounted. I have found I really need a dedicated set of wheels and tires for track days. I figue they will last me 3 track events this year. RA is easy on tires but Roebling will make up the differance!

Good news for my tires. The piece of metal I found, was tiny. It was in the tire less than 1/32 of an inch, all in a tread block. It did not make it all the way through, and is not a cause for concern. It will be worn through before the tire ever sees pavement at RA.
Now to avoid any other random sharp objects between now and RA.

I started reading the posts here about HPDE driving. It is really well written. What is interesting is the recommendation against R compound tires. I think if I had read this thread before investing, I may have waited. Then again, grip is beautiful... I highly recommend reading the Track Guides articles. I read through "the business cone" and indeed can identify with what is written there. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the articles as time allows.

I see what you mean. I clicked on "the business cone" and immediately went into seizures
It is kind of glaring on the eyes with the color chosen and the flag effect on the sides. Good reading none-the-less.
