Ahhhhh, the pre mix discussion----I like.
Ok here is what I think. The renasis has an oil injection pump---right? Yes it does. the purpose of the oil injection pump basically is to inject oil into the COMBUSTION chamber. Why? to help lubricate and seal the rotor seals. OK --there is some discussion about if our stock oip injects enough oil for substained high rpm driving--such as track days. Racing Beat makes a mod to increase the secondary piston in this pump by 30% for engines that have been FI'ed. WHy? because the stock pump does not pump enough for the extra stress at higher rpms. Since I cant get the oip mod(and really dont want it) I have chosen to do pre mix. Just like a 2 cycle engine.
Now I dont use a lot---5oz's per tank. Thats 5 oz's per full tank.Approx 16 gals. I swear it does make the engine smoother--increased power--I dont know, maybe just a bit but it is not proven--but idle sure is smoother.
Use a good quality pre mix( I use a yamaha full synthetic motorcycle racing pre mix) put it in the tank BEFORE you gas up.
That percentage of pre mix is guaranteed to not NOT HARM THE CAR, engine or cat. It feels better and it may really help the longetivity of your engine. Some of this engine reminds me of a 2cycle.
Also always use the highest octane you can in this car as the ecu will pull timing for lower octane. The car can run fine but your power will be down a little. You may not even feel it. But it will be down.

From Racing Beat:
This means that, when using this modification in street applications, there is little change in oil consumption up through cruise power - but extra flow is there at higher RPM and load when you need it!
This modification is ONLY intended for boosted engines or those engaged in continued hard use (road racing, etc.). Mazda has established the correct flow for the stock engine in street use.
Ok. More oil is needed ONLY under those extreme conditions (racing, boosted mods) not daily use. I might try pre-mix at RA but thats a big maybe.
Plugs are damn expensive for this car and oil fouling is not something I want to accelerate. And before anyone goes off by saying the oil is synthetic and it fully burns with no ash and no fouling, more oil burned in the combustion chamber is more oil burned, period.
I think you are doing your engine a disservice if you pre-mix for daily driving or too often. It just doesnt need the extra.

Hey Blue,
I was just looking at the map for Road America, it is over 4 miles long, how long is that front straight, and what kind of speed do you see in the 8 there? I would love to come drive that one day, it looks like a lot of fun, and challenging too.

I don't know when it will happen, probably 2007, but I have watched the races at that track on TV, and looking at the course map, it loks to be fun, and it is long as hell, over 4 miles, 14 turns, some of them are really sharp. Only problem is, it is a long *** way away, but would be worth it, especially if I was not the only one going.
EDIT:, yep, 1044 miles. that is about 4 tanks of gas, could be done in one day if need be, and would be a long haul. I'd be up for it, should the timing work out right.

It would be really nice to have a contengency of 4 or 5 cars rolling into the track for a two day event! I'd like to see if I could manage to take a vacation around that. Four miles... WOW! Makes TGPR sound like a GoKart track!

Val-- agreed --pre mix is not for normal daily driving, although I know people that use a lower concentration for daily driving. I dont. But for the track you can bet your bottom dollor I do. Plug fouling is a non issue on the track (should be at least) and the pre mix will not add to that issue as long as you do the regular de carboning thingy's. Pre mix probably could add to problems if there are carbon hot spots in the combustion chamber.
One other thing---the "new" plugs we all are getting are a heat range hotter. Since I have an almost new set of the colder range I may swap to those for the track sessions. Thoughts?
Road America---damn that would be a trip!
Hey Val do you still have that apperance(sic) kit? Lets talk at RA. I know you need the money so you can get those unorthodox pulleys and to continue to buy all that wax!

If some of you SE guys would like to come up we always have a great time at the track! I have been trying to recruit people to join the club.

I do in normal everyday driving. Usually get high grade for a track day though.

On the back straight my highest speed is redlined in 4th(about 125mpg give or take a few) I anticipate with my new drive ratio that I will need to go into 5th on the back straight.
Val,
I dont think most of our carbon problen is from oil. Its from that unburnt stuff from the rich a/f mixtures we have to live with. However I do agree pre mix for everyday driving is unnecessary. Bidding ---agggghhhh
