NASA March 18/19 Road Atlanta

You know guys-- I think Charlie may be on to something after all with the hks ignition amp. After looking at things and speaking with some others--there may be a slight advantage with this system. It charges the leading AND trailing plugs and with the ? possible coil issues there may be a benefit--if nothing else maybe it will make the coil packs last longer and smoother delivery at more than just idle.

I'm a walking advertisement for the HKS unit. It's my FD that's on his wall that made 8 rwhp and 19 ft/lbs almost across the rev range. It was an increase that was pretty constant pretty much through red line. Now granted, Charlie's had more time to tinker with it on NA cars, but on the 2nd gen's he's done it, there was about 2 to 3 rwhp increase. 2 to 3 on the 8 would be a good increase considering the RB intake only added 3 or 4. If the car IS running rich, if everything else was static, then this would help burn the mixture and make it run a bit leaner, but still should be on the safe side considering how rich they have the maps on the 8. Since it's in WOT on the dyno it should be reading off the map and not trying to get the O2 feedback (if the ecu is similar in design as the FD's). It will be interesting to see how it works out on Charlie's car.

Hey I'm getting excited just reading the other thread about this weekend! I wish I was going.
Do you guys have any suggestions for hotel accomidations in the RA area. I feel like I have to do something.

Yes, there are several hotels around Braselton. You can find them from the RoadAtlanta.com web site. When it get's closer, in a couple weeks, we'll starting talking about it and find one. Depending on if it's just you or both of you, we usually split rooms to make it cheaper.

damn, quicker response! So I am used to running at Road America, which has 2 high speed straighter and some very heavy braking zones. What should be looking for at Road Atlanta?

This would be my first NASA event, normally I run in novice with the Fbody club here in WI. I guess that would be the entry level DE, but from what they have told me I am fast enought to move up one level. So whatever that tranlates into for NASA?

I passed everyone so they bumped me forward. Play by the rules. It is dangerous when the wrong person gets into the wrong group. I am not saying anything about Blues abilities but no one can know until they ride and obseve his driving.

Even in hpde 1 you can go as fast as you can safely drive. It's a new track, you will be a ways from home and I would reason you do not want to drive every lap 10/10. There is not a lot of differance in hp1 and 2 except in 2 more experienced drivers (usually in faster cars) are on the track with you. Course you are working on more advanced skills.
Heck the last track event I asked to be place BACK in hpde 1 because that was where all my buds where and it was more fun driving with them ,than out there by myself. Also after getting checked off you would be able to drive solo if you want. Also a lot of instructors will take you on the track with them during their runs.
Most dont advise this but during my last track event I let my instructor drive my car (i was in it). He races rotary's and I felt comfortable with this. He helped me understand the limits of my car. Before when I was drivng thinking I was doing 8/10 or 9/10laps, after experiencing my car with him I found I was only driving maybe at best 7/10. I was no where near the edge. He also said he now understood why I was driving the way I was and gave me some invaluable info on what my car needed to prep it better for track days. Its one of the best track events I have ever been too.
Oh yea Road Atlanta turn 12 will make you drop your jaw! But by Sunday you will love it.
It has it all flat turns, 110 degree turns, banked turns , esses with elavation changes, long straights, hard braking zones, blind hills(but at relativly slow speeds) but surprisingly not bad on tires. Are you bring r compunds?

Maybe I shouldn't include Super on the list until we get another driver. Where's PAM!

I'm still trying to get the days off! If I make it though, I'll be in group 1. I want to be able to pass at least one car!!! (not that passing or being passed is important or any thing like that)
