I have not ordered a harness to start looking at it yet. I have read up a lot on it. The two cuts in the rear seats, lead to two hoops, for child seat anchors. Those are rated for holding a child in, in the event of an accident. They would not be accident or crash rated for an adult. The same goes for the child seat anchor in the rear window area, right above where the rear seat headrest is. It too is only rated for children.

While I don't PLAN on crashing, it would be nice to bolt into the seat belt anchor points in the rear seats. This would require taking the rear seats out, which I already do, and replacing the bolts that hold the lap belt and buckle to the car frame. These are crash rated for adults. It would require a 4 point harness, with the big problem being the straps going over the corners of the seat, rather than through two pass thru holes typically found in racing seats. This might cause the belts to push you down in the seat, submarining I believe they call it, rather than hold you in. I don't want racing seats, so I will have to figure something out. It might take me some time, and testing to get it right, but I am not planning on doing this as soon as I had wanted to. But hopefully I will be able to one of these days. That is where my R&D has come to a grinding halt. I have not been able to find anyone who has put harnesses in, with the stock seats. If you come across someone who has, or have some other ideas, please share.

This one has some other cars on track with me. It was the very last session on Sunday. We were down to 5 cars IIRC. The M3 and yellow Spec E30-S were instuctors taking the Instructor Clinic class. I intended to go out and take it easy but it was hard to back off and let those guys get away from me.

I agree, as much as I told myself to take it easy at the end of the day, it just felt too good and I found myself going just as fast, if not faster.

4 or 5 harnesses without a roll bar is fine for Auto X but a BAD IDEA for OT. The 4-5 points harnesses currently sold designed to attach to the rear seat belts are intended to keep you tight in the seat for low speed auto X only where the risk of roll-over is slim to none.

The reason it's a bad idea for high speed open track is that if you roll over and the roof caves in, your head is the highest point in the car and the 4-5 harness insures that it stays that way..

I.E. you are trapped, cannot lean over and your head/neck becomes roll-over protection for the other precious stuff in the car if you flip.

I like that video better than the other one, seeing the other cars gives you a better perspective about just how fast you really are. It is also nice to see that your line, shifting, and braking points was very similar to mine.
Is the camera shaking or is your passanger seat shaking that much?

this is true, if you are lacking a roof, otherwise the roof and the pillars and windshield take the brunt of the force, plus, if you manage to flip in a DE, god help you

Don't mean to flame, but God help us all indeed, never seen a rolled-over car with a flattened roof, windshield, pillars, et all?

I was interested in a Schroth Harness, I did the research, and from all I read the consensus is that you are more likely to suffer compression injuries if you rollover and have a 4 or 5 point harness without additional roll-over protection installed in the car.

Nobody wants to rollover anywhere but at high speed on a track anything can happen.

Don't kid yourself about the "lack of danger" in DE's. It's true that it is not racing, not a competition, and the clubs go through a lot of efforts to make it safe. That being said it's also true that we routinely hit 100+ mph on the straights, the faster corners are routinely rounded in the 80-90+ mph range, and that my friend can open the door for gnarly stuff. Did you see the HDPE Poccono crash?

Safety is important I thought it might be good info for my buddies on this board to see both sides of the story regarding these harnesses

I think it makes sense that sans roll bar, you may not want to be held too firmly in place as the roof support.

Yea, that tape on the headlights is OD's signature! I lack it! Nice shots TA. The E-Z UP looks great. I need to see if I can get it for CMP... anyway we can meet this weekend. How about we (anyone that wants to join) Saturday afternoon for burger & brew somewhere in L8's area.

yeah, the Poccono crash was horrible, but you also need to take into account the fact that there was a novice driver with one of the fastest supercars ever made.

but I do agree with your points

OMG... I can't believe those cars were so close to the track! That was an error by the officials to allow them to be so exposed.

hey Silver, TA was going to take the EZ-UP over to Mazcare, since he goes on vacation this weekend, and won't be back until after your event. In the event that you can not get over there to pick it up, let me know. I can go get it at lunch one day, and then meet you for lunch the next day, and get it to you then.

Most all the time issues like this are due to poor planning, not to driver error. In the case of the Carrera GT, they sent a car out in front of him, who moved 'online' in front of the Porsche who was closing at over 160+mph. Not good planning. What is sad is the guy who was killed was a rare 'stand-up' kind of guy, who would actually daily his Carrera GT, and let kids crawl all over it at car shows, including letting people start it etc. VERY RARE.

/me says prayer for him/.

I had not heard fo that crash until now, the one with the Porsche. That is very sad, the driver had a wife and child, the passenger was recenlty married. It is a very scary thought, and reminds all of us, that when we head out onto the track, we are taking a big risk. If your head is not right, or you are not paying attention, bad **** can happen. Just ask the driver of the red corvette at RR, he tried to do the one thing you aren't supposed to do at RR. I bet his drive back to North Carolina was a long one, and he walked away from his accident. Sobering, and gives us all a reality check. Does it make me not want to get back out there, no, just reminds me of what we are doing.

Tonight I will try to get a couple videos posted up, one showing what happens when a DE driver decides that the rules don't apply to him, and a couple others with less excitement, and a lot less profanity.

Would these rules be the rules of physics?
