NASA-SE CMP (Carolina Motorsports Park) July 14-15 !!!!!

Guys, you are gonna have a blast. I actually hope you get a little sprinkle, because there is no better lady to teach you rain control than CMP. I had the most fun ever in my Evo at CMP in the rain. I think that day I got down to 1:56 on rain tires in a light sprinkle.
Just remember, less is more at CMP, and turn 13 is very deceiving, you can carry alot more speed than you think through it. I was carrying insane speed through there in my Evo, to the point, I was near the top of third through it, somewhere between 70-80 on R's. Granted, it is dramatic, but because it is opened up slightly from the other turns in the autocross section, it is a good place to pickup time on the masses who haven't realized it yet.

I can see it now! This is a soon to be conversation.
"So, mister #8... what happened"
"er.... I tried to take turn 13 at 80mph and I didn't quite make it"
"Are you OK?"
"Yea, I think I'll go in and change my pants now before I come back out for the remaining 20 min."

Good news, I may have the car as soon as next week. Although late for this event, I will definitely be attending some others.
However, there will be a wifey and child in tow. I am making this a fam affair, also bringing my 14yearold nephew, also a car fanatic (and who is being recruited by M.I.T.)
Hope you guys have a great time, I may ride down Sunday with the little one, provided the wifey gives me walking papers.
I can't wait to see some vids.
Oh, here are some shots from the last track event I did at CMP, and it was the last before selling the car.

They were on Modified Magazines site from the Evo Shoot-out.

lets meet up at the Taco Bell. I have not eaten there in a long time.
good god, 80 through turn 13, I would need a lot of Velcro, some super glue, and some steel nuts the size of my wheels for that.
I am too excited, I did not sleep well last night, just thinking about the prep tonight, and the trip tomorrow. I have to go to GTE for an alignment this afternoon, and then pack the car up this evening. Then I REALLY won't get any sleep tonight.
and WTF, why is there no schedule out yet, it is Thursday, we usually get the schedule on Wednesday.

L8, call me before you go down to GTE. I'm still waiting on a call to come pick my wheels up. you may get your alignment before I get my wheels mounted. They should be ready today. Is it possible you could bring them back to your house and let me pick them up from there?

If he has them ready then this will be perfect. I can pick them up at your place and mount and heat cycle on the way home. ZoomZoom! Thanks L8! I'll let you know what GTE says.

Schedule is up.
CMP Schedule
DE groups are getting shafted, we are getting cut back to 20 minute sessions, so that TT whiners get their own sessions.
Figure a few minutes for a pace lap, 5 for a cool down and track clearing, and we might get a solid 10 minutes of good track time.

I'm going to start looking at other programs. I think NASA is screwing up. I think they are getting to the point they need to have race weekends and HPDE weekends. I think I'm going to do Seat-Time, BMW, Panoz (if they keep their program), Chin, Porsche, Turn-One and maybe others. Seat-time was awesome and I really look forward to that one again. I'll finish out this year with NASA but next year will be different.
If not, they are not the only game in town as you mentioned.
Will have to look at some of the other groups and see what the pricing vs track time is like.

agreed--lets look. NASA is really good folks but at the money being charged I need to get what I signed up for. Seat time was good. Maybe BMW club can stand an influx of 8's?
Silver --did you get your tires shaved? Read the report/guide on Tire Rack about this matter.

Taco Smell at Noon it is.
I signed up for TTC so if that works out well I'll probably do more NASA stuff.
Trackaddict has talked me into the BMW Club, and I am almost sure I'm going back to VIR in Sept with MazdaDrivers I really like them.
My next big new track is most definitely Mid Ohio. I am not sure when I'll go but one of my friend's brother is well connected with the Porsche Club there so I'll see if I can swing a right seat gig..
So much like my friend TrackAddict I wil probably keep jumping around but keep a fairly steady diet of NASA.

OD, not gonna be as fun without you an TA, but I guess we just have to struggle on.....
By all means lets look around. You guys are my mentors and I enjoy the hanging out part as much as anything. NASA are good folks, and I hope they get it figured out. As a DE-1 guy, I have 4 -45 min classes, 5- 25 min track sessions, and 3 - 20 min track sessions. Add in a couple of rides, and thats a nice weekend for the price.
And remember Silver - when you start instructor classes, you are gonna have your hands full and be on track a lot.
We should start comparing and see what is out there.

Sorry OMS, that does suck.
We are all meeting for lunch about 5 miles from GTE on Fri. When are the parts supposed to get in? It really wouldn't be to much of a stretch to swing by on our way out if it helps.

Y'all have a fun and safe weekend at CMP. I'll be with you in spirit.
OMS - sorry to hear it is a cluster getting the hardware.
As for NASA vs the others - I like NASA a lot. I always have a good time even when track sessions are short or get shortened. I always get my fill and not just since I became an instructor. That being said, I have had a great time with BMWCCA and hope to try Seat Time at some point. TA2 says good things about MazdaDrivers too. So, there are lots of choices out there. So we have options. The one thing I miss about non-NASA events are all my friends. That plays a big part of the weekend fun. I am going to make a concerted effort to minimize far track and maximize close track. That means a heavy diet of Road Atlanta, Barber and Roebling.

Ditto on the other groups / clubs too
When I go to another group's weekend I enjoy myself as well and always end-up making new friends so that's good too not to mention get a chance to try out a new track.
In the end, as they say: Variety is the spice of life..
