Thanks TA, I'll look at what I had this last time and post it. Now I just gotta find my old bar and clips......hmmmmmmmmmmm
OD. I was all over the setting on the shocks.....stayed softer in the rear the entire time. Tried harder for one lap........oooooooooooooooooo, just as I thought, bad idea, magnified the issue. No changes except for a new front shaft oil seal. measured wheel well and all are good. Sticky *** biotch at RR the I am ruling out end of life of the tires due to the fact that that were fine all the way through the end of RR and the issue showed up immediately at CMP.....gotta get this fixed before RA or turn 12 and 1 are gonna be really hairy...........
. Unless I have gone senile, which is a good possibility, and don't recall nailing any pot holes from hell or anything since RR.............
Settings as of 07/06 at GTE

This is the session 4 video. While it does not look like nearly as much fun on film, it was a freakin blast in person. There are some awesome fireballs, some good passes, and some good driving if I do say so myself.
Session 4 chasing OnRails
It is not as fancy as OMS's videos, but it is raw, unedited. Full session. Man I wish I could go back and do that again.

I actually managed to get the white exhaust tips going. A lot of that track is up high in the rev range, it is a lot of fun.
Dano, I have some other pics of you also, I just have not edited them yet. Once I get them all up, if you find one you want full size, let me know, I will send it off to you.

Good folks, this video really does no justice for the run (let alone the Dave that was playing...).......you can't feel the braking, the turn in G's the rotation (the good kind)......Travis was spot on and deserves a huge pat on the back................

The vids look great, I saw a couple things where you could pick up speed, but for the most part, the lines looked great. Not to mention you guys were drilling it into the corners, before breaking.
How was the track? Typically, in July the track is a little slick and hard to put the power down. I saw the times were off from last visit, were TTA was in the 1:48's, and now, none went lower than 1:49s. That is right on point with the times I ran last year around the same time, I think my best was a 1:50:00, but that was on stock sized RA1's, not the usually 255's shaved, that I usually run. I think with shaved +2 tires, I could have gone 1:47's, not to mention, I lost my ABS sensor, which meant I couldn't go nearly as deep as I could prior to loosing it.
Again, good job guys, look forward to living through you guys more in the vids as they get posted.

pointers are always welcome.
Toward the end of Sunday, i had to back off the brakes a little, pads were getting thin, and I did not want to overcook them. i have a video of OnRails going straight off in 11. That was what seemed to be the slickest part of the track to me. At times, it felt like the brakes went soft, but it was just the lack of grip there. The track in general did nto have a lot of grip, that was the most common comment, from racers and DE'ers.
When i go back to CMP, I am going to have brand new brake pads, so that I can really try to brake later. Thin pads really hurt me, OnRails was braking later than I was, and I am sure it was a pad thing. And, CMP really goes through them.

I remember in my Mustang going through one set per day of the PF pads. The Evo could go about 3 or 4 before starting to get some real wear. The real amazing thing was the fact I had to bleed the brakes after every run, things I didn't have to at any other track.
The things I saw was turn one, three and 8, you were loosing some speed on the turn in, basically, there is one 'fast' line through there, and if you turn it a little early or later, you ain't on it. The biggest place I saw was turn 8, where you were braking so late you were overloadoing the front tires on turn-in. The car hid it, but if you brake earlier, and get back on the gas earlier, level the car out, you can carry a ton of speed through there. One thing you may want to try too, where I picked up .5s per lap, was not swinging full wide on turn 12, the straight between 12-13 is so short, you really get no benefit from swinging the full 3-4 cars out, just make it a drag from 11-12, and keep it 2 car wide. Stopwatch didn't lie, it worked. Other than that, you guys looked great. I forgot how good a RWD car looked through the carasel.

Well my video isn't as good because my camera mount is a POS compared to what L8Apex was using but here ya go:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...53583098&hl=en
This is the first session on Sunday chasing L8Apex. I lost a few of the videos I shot this past weekend because I had the "Super Nightshot" turned on.

WOOHOO!! I found my old rear sway....I know what I'm doing this weekend.....anyone know what a used RB rear sway is going for these days???
***Hmmmmm*** Small revelation....I know others in our group are running the RB rear bar, but is anyone else running it WITH the MazdaSpeed rear strut bar as well????
PS - If OMS ever gets out of this tracking his 8 thing....I claim first dibs on his track wheels..................

I would actually go 2k softer on your rear springs. This will allow you to get on the gas sooner, and harder. The sway bar controls mid corner hold, so if you are breaking loose mid-corner, then dump it. I know some Mustang guys who take theirs off totally, when they have additionall bracing, like strut bars, panhard, or torquearms.

Nice shots L8. My access to the internet is REALLY slow here at the hotel so I can't dload your vid. Will have to wait till I get back home.
Now, for my report:
This was a hell of an event. Really wish all the gang could have been there to see Dano (HPDE1) in his auto-8 raising hell on the track. Who'd a thunk that car would go the weekend without being passed. Damn fine driving my friend.
OnRails & L8APEX really did a great job. I know both were very pleased to be passed of to solo. I can't wait to see the vid when I get home. I look forward to you guys joining the HPDE3 gray hairs with OD and me.
Phlash, Thanks for riding with me and your advice. I always listen and it did make for a much smoother transistion on the kink. Dude, you always make for a memorable weekend as your humor is unforgetable... Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!
TorqueAholic, Thanks for the help on 5/6/7. It made a big difference and the car felt great there the next time around. The pass on Ron in turn 13 came up in class as he brought it up and was a topic of discussion for about 15 min.
My new 17" RA1's felt like magic rubber. I could go anywhere I wanted on the track. I could hug the inside, stay wide, follow a car into a turn and come out on the inside of him if I wanted or outside or what ever... just pick a spot. I've never had that kind of control. Before it was like my car was telling me where it would let me go and this time, it was like I had broken it like a horse and I told it where I wanted it to go. Freaking Awesom!
The 17" wheels changed my driving considerabally as I did shift gears more often than before but that's fine as I don't mind shifting at all. I'm very comfortable with it. I think the place I noticed it the most was out of turn 14 where I had to power out with some very powerfull cars and it seemed to just jump out of the turn. I know we don't have the most powerful car for this but I passed a lot of cars there.
HPDE3: I was a little concerned about this because 3 and 4 were combined both days but as I found out the first time out on Saturday, the track was in my favor and nothing intimidated me or scared me at all. Didn't get passed until Sunday when two hot *** Mustangs blew my doors off. I think I have it on video.
It's always important to learn from other drivers and I especially want to thank Phlash and TorqueAholic for their comments and for riding with me.
NASA, thanks for putting on yet another great event.
I have a lot more vids and a few photos to post but I will have to wait till I get home to work on those. Look forward to Road Atlanta and getting the gang together again. L8, wish you were driving!

it is going to be great to have all the "oridginals" back home along with all the other family members. it has been too long. REUNION (AND GROWTH)
OF THE 8'S!!!
Swoope --if you can you really ought to make every effort to come to this one. If you thought RR was great, then you havent experienced RA. Now RR is the most fun to drive, but RA is really where the action is. The things you see in the pits and the things you are on track with--it is just no comparison! I am sure you can
get multiple rides and I tell you riding RA is a thrill. We will buy the drinks this time!
Silver--I dont want to say I told you so---but I told you so!!!! Now driving RA is going to be a little differant than before.
You are going to come out of turn 7 under full throttle earier in 3nd and by the time 10A comes up you will be in 5th gear and probably over 130 or right at it. Then you have to downshift from 5th to 3nd--not 4th to 3nd as before. It is a little different! Remember because of the increased speed you are going to have to brake harder and a tad bit earier.
After 10 a/b and over the hill short shift into 4th--dont worry it will pull hard! Do whatever your *** will let you do throught 12 etc and stay in 4th through turn 1(use all the turn--if you dont then you entered to slow) downshift at the top of the hill to 3nd and blast it around that left hander--shift to 4th for the esses(you will be hauling *** be careful here shifting as you enter the esses is different), back to 3nd for power out of 5 and then shift to 4th. stay in 4th until turn 7 then its all over again. You do have the option to go to 3nd in turn 6 --say for an inside pass there etc--but if you are just driving the line it is faster for me to stay in 4th. Down the back straight i short shift to 5th at about 8K.
Overall adverage the engines rpm will be lower and you will notice that the engines temps will be a little cooler than before.
So who will be next in the conversion to 17"'s!!
have to show all the lotek center pod and the pro sport gauges. they turned out well. I also have removed the buck tooth from up front airdam area. I really like the look--really cleaned it up.
just ordered new carbo tech xp 8 pads for the front.
