NASA-SE HPDE - Carolina Motorsports Park - Feb 10-11

NASA-SE CMP Event Website:

Here's CMP's Website:

Track Layout:

Most of the SE RX-8 folks know about these events. Hope to see several of you there.

I'll be taking this... She's almost ready. Got some more interior extras to remove and track brake pads to install. Got a set of Hoosiers and a set of RA-1's for her. I'll have the stock passenger seat in with the set of harnesses on the passenger side.

I will be there, hopefully, but only in a working role. We close on our house on the 1st, so maybe I can get away to work this one.

Lego, one question, I thought that it was a bad idea to use a one piece racing seat, unless you had a full cage with roll protection. I see it has a cage behind the seats, does that constitute enough of a cage to make it not an issue.

Yes, it will be enough. A one peice seat is only used when you have rollover protection, which my 4-pt bar gives. I talked with Kirk Racing and this is what they recommended. Since I also drive it on the street on occasion, I didn't want a full cage.

ok, makes sense. I know you dont want to drive it on the street with a full cage, that coudl be painful and lots of headaches. I just was curious. look froward to seeing you at the next event.

Hope you can make it. We'd like to see you there.

Camber plates/Coilovers getting set up now for the RX-7. I'm excited. This is going to be fun! I wanted to make sure I took her to a track before Road Atlanta.

I am trying to talk Steve into coming too, but with his son being born anyday, I am not sure he will have a pass.

I have made a reservation for the NASA sponsored accomadations for CMP this time around. It is the Colony Inn . It did not sound like it was full, so if you are planning on attending this event, book a room.

I registered to work. I will need to share a room as well. Don't mind bringing a cot and splitting 3 ways.

EDIT:
LEGO/SILVER at the Colony Inn.

STOKED!

It is going to be cold too I am sure. Might need snow chains and thermal clothing.

I think I've died and gone to heaven... my wife suggested I work toward being an instructor so I can drive for free!

Now, I'm not nieave and I know where I stand as a driver and how much I have to learn. It's just that my wife has accepted me driving and is willing to entertain this type of conversation that has me so excited. As my friend L8 so graciously put it... w00t w00t!

You must tell her it means seat time. Why don't you drive CMP instead of work it? Your goal can be to be in HPDE3 by midseason and take an instructor clinic at the end of the year...

my wife knows as well as TA does, that there is no chance at me instructing. and she was not so keen on the idea of me hopping into a car, with a complete stranger, and ripping off down the track. she would prefer I pay to drive, or work to drive as is the case now. So I am ok with that, she is ok with me driving, and that is good enough for me.

I like that plan but my goal is just to drive. The fact that I will be working in February and other times throught the year means I smooth the driving season over with the my wife. Taking an instructor class is not really in my program for this year I don't think. HPDE2 or 3 is fine with me. Much like L8. I only brought up the instructor thing because it established things are going well on the HPDE front at home and that makes me REAL happy.

Shouldn't be a problem. I'll put it in the truck I'll borrow/rent.
