Ok new question...

TA, am I seeing correctly that you are topping out in 4th coming down the front straight?

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...67247290370948

Seems like I noticed this on the RA videos I watched as well even though I don't think I ever heard the beep myself. Guess I never got going fast enough!

Does anyone know what top speed is in 4th gear assuming you are running 18in rims? I know on my car that 93 is the limit in 3rd but I haven't topped out 4th yet and I'm thinking that I-85 isn't the place to go find out.

I tried searching on here for top speeds in each gear because I know I've seen it before but I can't find it.

yep, top of fourth just before turn 1. you will see some of your highest speeds on track right there. i think it is 128-129 somewhere in there. I have seen 127 there.

that happens coming over the hill at 9 at RA if you have the stones to keep it matted cresting the hill. I don't. So I have not heard the beep there.

I have not bumped the rev limiter there. I would guess the car can do 131 -133 before hitting the rev limiter and I was shy of that.
I don't hear the beep in my car but I put a mic under the dash so I can see on video what is going on in terms of revs. I beep in 4th at Road Atlanta just past turn 9 if I get a so-so exit from 7. If I get a good exit from 7, I beep at the apex of 9.

now, rev limiter is different, I stay off that. I don't see any point in bangning off the rev limiter, our peak power drops off after 8500 anyway.

I had guessed around 130 but wasn't sure. At RA I had it planted till the 150 ft marker but I don't remember hearing the beep at all and I don't hear it in the videos I made. Either I wasn't going fast enough or I was concentrating on other things.

On a side note, I was getting some hesitation at around 7000. Maybe its time for new coils and or plugs?

the beep in 4th with oem wheels and tires is at 124 or so. Now TA is running 18's but with a smaller sidewall. So his beep would come on before that. But he dont pay any attention to no stinking beeps! He is too busy going fast as hell! that is one thing that is good about our little cars--the rpm thing can grant you a reprieve from a shift.
My short 17's at RA make me work harder. They are perfect for RR and they are faster at RA but sure makes you work harder to get their advantage.
Hesitation at 7K? yep 1st thing to start with is plugs coils and wires. DO get better wires the oem ones make the system work a little harder I think. Their resistance i know is much highter than say RB's. Make sure your plugs are gapped correctly --they do not come out of the box with the correct gap.

hesitation at 7K, I have it to, mine was in third gear between turn 7 and 8 at CMP. When I go visit Chas in two weeks, I am having new plugs put in. I hope that solves the problem. If not, and we will find out at RR, then I will need to start working on getting new coils. Probably due for another new set of wires too, I replaced them last March, so it has been a while.

this thread is about a track event, on a road course, hosted by NASA-SE. you have to have a NASA membership and you have to sign up with NASA and get registered for the event, and then you bring your own car out to the track, and drive. An instructor is provided for HPDE 1 & 2.

also, read it on the NASA forum, DE 2 & 3...full.

L8APEX's description is spot on...
Here's the website: http://www.nasa-southeast.com/

L8APEX is also a walking, dreaming, track zombie and is about to wet himself with excitement as most do that participate! If you try it, you will know what I'm talking about.

You have to replace them that often?

I am not planning on it, but I do have a stutter at high RPM and WOT, and I am sure it is a spark issue, and if new plugs does not cure it, then I will do coils, and then wires. in that order. The ignition system is just so overworked on the car, that things wear out faster than normal.

wires should be good for a while as long as you dont mangle them. oem wires have a pretty high resistance over 2ohms where as the RB's are like 0.5. I know resistance is not all that you look for but still---
the plugs work hard and are exposed to rich a/f's and high temps. if you want all that engine can give fresh plugs are a must for the higher rpm limits. Not unusual to have a 10 hp drop from bad plugs(and you dont feel a miss or anything). Then if plugs /wires dont get it done--replace the coils. They cost about as much as the plugs.
Some of us --even those that really hate working on our car lol have also done additional grounding of the individual coils back to the negative battery post.
To me if you are having an ignition problem--replace all of it with fresh. But that is just me. if you have any weakness in any part of the ignition system on this car it is much more likely to give probs again. For example--running with bad plugs or wires will cause the coils to have to work even harder.
dont even get me started on the fuel system
guys i just dissected a fuel pump assembly with 100k on it and 32K of pre mix.

Ahmmmm... (clears throat and scratches fingernails down chalk board from the back of the room)
Do you remember this? I documented it so I beg to differ. I may be wrong but if my memory serves me correctly, I had about 18K mi. on my car at the time.

"a 28 -30 HP gain just from changing spark plugs. If you own an RX-8, I STRONGLY SUGGEST you pay attention to this one."

Agreed. I can't wait!

Spent several hours getting the sides of the RX-7 to look like the Speedsource cars. Imitation is the finest form of flattery. Looks really cool now. We used the Mazda Blue and Orange for the sides just like the #70 car. Now I'll spend the next 3 weeks removing excess stuff from the car and give it a VERY THUROUGH nut and bolt job.

Here's the driver's side of the car. Still have to put a few more touches to it, and put the MAZDA back on. Sorry, it's an evening shot and a little dark. Rotors in Mazdaspeed Blue and Orange like the #70.

I still have the other RX-7. It's for sale though now on the RX-7club. She's a great car. Here's all three. The rotaries are ganging up on the lone piston car in the garage!

That really looks awesome! I'm jealous. Makes me want a track car.... There is a lightly damaged rx8 not far from here for $7500.....
