Well, I'm officially out of the event. The recall notice has got me concerned for my safety, the safety of others and my nice car so I have pulled out of HPDE-1 in Aug. A little bummed but its the right thing to do.
However, I am registered to work the event. Who knows, maybe one day they'll be calling ME Race Control Trainee.
How many are booked up at Hotel Phlash?

Well, i am sure that y'all have read some of the new info in the lower control arm recall thread, it appears that most of us, excluding maybe Charlie or anyone who has had their 8 that long, will not be affected by this recall. Cars made between April and December 2003, and with a VIN in the range of ***40100053-***40129716are the cars affected. SInce my car was made in January, and it is outside those VIN numbers, I am no longer worried about this issue.
Hello Autocross, and most importantly, on to ROAD ATLANTA!! :D

For you guys considering your position on the recall and track events, this post by Tigger (his link here) http://199.79.180.162/prepos/files/A...5V325-9406.PDFis a must read on the ball joint issue. One part that stood out for me was this, and provided a much needed sanity check and caution as well...
"NUMBER OF REPORTS OF THIS CONDITION
REPORTS OF THIS CONDITION: None
ALLEGED ACCIDENTS: None
ALLEGED INJURIES: None
ALLEGED FATALITIES: None
Mazda found it in two test vehicles"
Note to self: don't run on apex curbing in "race" type maneuvers this coming Sunday!

Thats great news! The pdf files are interesting. Looks like they knew about it way back in March 2004
Have fun at RA, trhroads. But I dropped out and, like Nabil, signed up for working. We'll make sure to keep an eye on one of our own.

WooHoo!!!! Two weeks till RA!!!
O'tay boys and gilrs......I need a head count for Friday and Saturday Night at Chateau Phlash. I have been contacted by a couple of others that may stay with us and I want to make sure I have my ducks in a row.......
I am also re-visiting the setup location. We all thought turn one may be good but looking at the layout again that looks to be setting up on the lower parking area......DAMN that's going to be a hot spot in August.....so, I'm thinking up on the hill at 10a-b, on the grass, with a breeze, overlooking the track......
I will check out both Friday when I get there prior to setting up. Thoughts???

Once again........
**Calling all Cars**
We need workers for RA.....those that aren't running, please come on down and join us. Worker time creates tracktime credit! For every two weekend events worked, you get one weekend of free tracktime.
From Tom Henning:
Hi Y'all,
The NASA-SE track event at Road Atlanta is right around the corner on August 13 & 14. We need lot of help in all areas from pit & grid to corner flaggers to timing and scoring to race control.
Most of you have worked at a NASA-SE event before and I hope you enjoyed it. Some of you already have assignments, and we hope you will confirm you attendance by registering on line as a worker. That way you will be sure to get credit for working.
We are expecting a large turnout of students and racers so we need all the help we can get. We also hope to continue training of corner flaggers with the professional crew that we have at RA.
On Friday night, we will need help controlling the paddock area and directing the participants to the correct paddock spaces as well under the expert guidance of Jim Mayer, NASA-SE Director.
Please let me know if you plan to attend, when you will arrive and you desires for worker assignment.
Thanks,
Tom Hennig
Race Director, NASA-SE

Get your friends involved as well. The more help we have, the safer the track and event is for all.

Whre we set up does not matter to me, whatever is easiest for you, or whichever you feel is best when you get there.

The Turkish Delight
I just got the ok from the Boss. I'll be there that weekend. More than likely come up Friday night. I'd like a reservation at Hotel Phlash too please. Non smoking. Free HBO, High Speed internet, and a mint on my pillow during the turndown service.
I guess I just can't get enough of you guys.

Just for future reference, NASA does NOT allow suction mounts for cameras, in cr, out of car, or anywhere. So now I need to fabricate one that is not suction mount. Damn rules and insurance.

FYI.....early tech inspections are really for the race group(s). They have quite a list to go over to make sure they are up to snuff to run. Your instructor will go over your car with you Saturday. He/She may ask you to remove stuff (like mats, spare tire, radar decetors, etc).
