NASA Track Day- Roebling Road- Sept.24 & 25

Personally, I would get new rubber, and keep those for daily duties. I know they hve had alot of heat cycles, and 'should' be good, but I don't know I would beat my car on it.
Old tires, especially ones tracked a bunch have alot of stress on the cords and belts, and Roebling, is HARD on the outer walls of camber challenged cars. I would hate to see a tire let go, or go down mid-run at 125mph.
Again, just my opinion. I went to Roebling, well, YESTERDAY, and the tire wear was considerably more than when I was there in the spring.
I can put it some pics of my tires up, if you guys want, but I did include a pic of my car and my buddies R32 from yesterday.

They have seen a bunch of heat cycles but they are not hard especially considering we will see some high track temps. Anyone have opinions?
Hope it doesn't rain. That is my only opinion. That and keep traction control on if you use those tires.

Get the new rubber now so you can break it in a little before you get on the track. I wouldnt run those tires. I know you have one 360 on them already. One want to stay safe man.
I wonder how many cars at the time will be on the track? Taking with wifey tonight. Hope I can sign up for this one. I think I will be able to do it. OD,OD,OD,!

Above is the driver front, notice the heat marks across the tire. This is after driving 280 miles home on them.
Also, I got down to the low 1:28's, but the car is substaintally quicker. My boost problem reared it's ugly head, I couldn't go full throttle, because the the air/fuel was so off with the boost controller bad. So, I figure the car was down about 75whp, because I couldn't get more than 15psi out of the car at low rpms' and after 5000, it would drop off to 7psi, yes, 7psi. I figure, with the boost right, and R compounds, the car can go 1:21's or less.
Below is the driver side rear. I didn't rotate them all day, and they got about 60 minutes of time on them.

I suggested that, and yes, 'typically' it is. However, I always forget most folks don't run Azenis, which are like the girls you want to meet in college. They go both ways .
They weren't too bad before I started, all together, now the tires have roughly 2 days at RA, 3 days at CMP, and now one day at Roebling, with an Autocross test day in there, which I actually spent about one hour running around the course, over and over (we were setting it up).
Also, remember, the coil-overs DRAMATICALLY improved the tire wear of this car, note the picture below, this tire was an Azeni that had only 2 days at CMP and one day at Roebling, and it was on the back. Note how much worse it looks. Not as blistered, but alot more wear.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, I found the best tire deals at Tire Rack, however, I do have a local shop that hooks me up on RA1's for about 165 a piece for 255/40's. That will be my next endeavor to assist with lap time reduction.
PS, how fast do you guys carry between 2 and 4, in the sweeping turn 3?

Hey, I am sorry, I meant between 2 and 4 (turn 3) at Roebling. In fact, I would be curious to hear what speeds most of you can do the whole track at, to compare how the Evo stacks up to the RX8 on street tires.
Also at Road A, if people can remember off the top of their heads.

On ra top of turn one i am at about 85, through 2 down to about 72 or so then full 3nd gear throttle through turn 3 and at the bottom of the esses i am at redline in 3nd which is about 90.
We will see at roebling. unfortunaly i will be on the o40's tires. Damn all yall on r rated rubber!
quick question for stop and turn-- how important is damping at Savannah? It doesnt seem to have the elavations like RA and I am comtimplating(sec) getting some konis before the track day. But if the stock suspension can handle it ( i do have sways) I may not. Opinions all?

I'm getting the feeling that the stock suspension can handle most anything. It all depends on how much you want to push it. The suspension design on this car is great! I'm not saying it wouldn't be a better ride in the Racing Beat or Tien setups, but the stock suspension is pretty robust. Since Roebling is pretty flat, the sways will help.

I think I'm going to sell the RX-8 and get this.

The increased dampening will help some, but not so much Roebling. Most of the corners are long, and slow turn in, so you really load, and unload so slowly, the shocks don't help/hurt that much. Also, the increased stiffness of the rollbars and the low center of gravity, natural to your car, will also help minimize the benefit. The would probably help in turn 4 and 6, but that is about it.
However, I did notice in the rain, having a higher spring rate and dampening, made the car so twitchy, I almost bit it several times.
Also, don't put so much on R compounds here, I could run with a R32 on R's with no problems, granted, I was on Azenis, which are soft like my belly.

Should I rotate my tires?
...The only exception to this would be the use of "directional" tread design tires such as our Aquatred II or some of our Eagle line high performance tires. These tires would remain on the same side of the vehicle and be rotated straight forward and straight back....

LOL
soft like your belly?! I know what you mean! Ok I'll bite with the o40's. since I really dont have a choice anyway. By the way if any one needs suspenion stuff the best people I have found is DPE. Read their posts, knowledgeable and seem to be very honest with good prices. I give them the same creditbillity as Racing Beat. If they say it then they know it. May stay stock then for this event and just buy some hawk pads.

I saw their ad about the front sway bar. It's a good bit cheaper than the racing beat one. I don't know what the handling differences are though if there are any between the two. I'm looking to get a front sway bar.

Sway bars made a huge difference on my stang, however, the Mustang had a roll center just under a F250. I would suggest them for Roebling, so you don't get sea sick going around the track. In my Evo, i had a student tell me he felt like he could reach out the windw and touch the ground it had so much roll. Hence, the coil-overs and sways. No more roll, dammit.
I may actually have the cage in by then, so I can really push it. If the car holds together, I am hoping for some low 1:21's, or R's. However, I would be happy with anything under 1:26.

I'm going to armorall Nabil's driver's seat just to see him bounce around while driving.
