I sent out a mass text to 10 other locals. We'll see... I'll post in the local forums too.
We need to try to get an estimate and probably let them know if we're going to have more than 5 people... lol

I've seen 2 Nordic green 8s in town lol. I've had my car about a month. Been going mod crazy since I've got it. Planning on going to run deal's gap in March.

I've ran it a few times on bikes but never in a car. So are there any other Mazda enthusiasts in our area?

Guess I'll poke my head in here. Been a number of years since I was a part of the rotary scene, but this Rx8 I picked up for a steal has dragged me back in. Can someone recommend a rotary mechanic around Spring Hill / Columbia / Lawrenceburg? If you see a velocity red 8 around that area, feel free to pull aside and race me, seems to be a common occurance. =)
I have so much stuff I want to do to this 8....if only the lottery would hit.

Well...someone whose very comfortable with rotary and the Rx8, specifically. I know my own personal mechanic refuses to touch it. It wouldn't hurt to know who to go to for custom work or just normal work.

So I guess what I would like to have is someone I can converse with should the need arise thats beyond my mechanical comfort.
As it is right now, I have a small list of things I want to do, but they all fall under things I am comfortable doing myself, such as switching to BHR coils, a completely upgraded exhaust (headers to catback), new gear shifter (forgot name atm, starts with an A) because my current shifing feels a little clunky and 5-6th gear both are a little touchy going into, as well as reverse being very picky.
So for the most part, I guess I'm looking for someone that would specialize more with the engine block itself, and the rotor housing area. Everything outside of that I'm fine with.
I'd also like to see about getting together on the next meetup in our area to get a better idea of everyones exhaust choices. I can not stand anything that sounds even remotely ricey, I love deep, throaty, powerdul sounding exhausts that have no raspyness to them whatsoever. I've pretty much made my mind up on getting a BHR midpipe, until BHR comes out with headers or a catback, I'm considering my other options.
If BHR had more options, considering their level of craftsmanship and the fact they ONLY specialize on the Rx8, I'd convert the whole car to only BHR parts, I feel they have the perfect grasp on how the 8 should sound/feel/perform.
Edit - I'm also not really considering much body work, except perhaps sideskirts/front skirt area. I adore the front so much I don't want to mess with the overall appearance to much, but I do like the KD Burnout look or the Bottom Line look. Anything else that changes the front design I just don't like. I don't judge others, but to me the front of the Rx8 is beautiful and I don't want to take away from that. To me I can see an influence of the Shelby Cobra in the design which just is a sin to ruin.
But I literally live just down the street from some friends that specialize in custom body work and I would trust them intimately to have them do anything like that. They do alot of old hotrods as well as custom work for modern race cars.

Cool. I prefer the stock look personally.
There are a couple guys that can overhaul a motor for you, but it kind of depends on timing and relationship. They're all nice guys though. Worse case, Kevin Landers in Knoxville at Rotary Resurrection charges $1600 for a basic rebuild assuming just seals are needed and no hard parts with a 1 year warranty.
Yea, we need to start making meets a regular thing again, even if only a couple people show up. Maybe the regularity will entice more people to come out.

I know for me personally, when I see my Rx8, I get an incredible sense of the beautiful lines it produces. I know many people prefer the look of a complete Mazdaspeed bodykit, but to me it just completely takes away from the natural beauty and uniqueness of the 04-08 look. I dont think the Mazdaspeed kit is ugly, but I feel like it's taking something very unique and turning it into something that could pass for a Honda S2000's bigger brother.
I am partial to the look of Mazdaspeeds sideskirts personally. I really like the look of those on their own, but when the front is changed so drastically, I'm left wondering...why would you do that?
As I said prior, there's a very small number of kits I feel really compliment the natural uniqueness of the Rx8 best, to me, without taking away it's natural lines. The KD Burnout does a nice job of accentuating the front lines well, as does the Bottomline kit, with more focus on just adding a nice carbon line around the bottom.
You can definitely tell this car is more of an emotion rather then your average everyday mechanical 'thing'. It's very rare for something to have any effect on me, I'm a very very extreme unmaterialistic person, but this car literally speaks to you, whether it's sitting there parked, or out on the road.
I stopped by Walmart (ugh) yesterday to grab some winter stuff (gloves, beanie, scarf) and parked next to a G8 GT that definitely belonged to someone who had put some aftermarket work into the engine, based on some decals he had on his back window. The G8 and GTO are both 2 other cars that are in my "Top 5 cars I love" list. As I was on my way back out to leave, there was a gentleman next to the two of our cars, standing outside his pickup. He was probably in his laate 50s, but as it turned out, he was there waiting, curious about this magnificent beauty of a car that spoke to him to. I gladly showed him around my 8, popped the hood, removed the cover, etc and went so far as to offer him a quick ride around the block. He hesitated for a second and said "what the hell".
He of course said "Dont get a ticket on my account" after I decided to let him see how it felt from 0 to 90. But it was the fact that he waited outside while his wife went inside JUST to inquire about this mass of metal that spoke to him. I'm sure most 8 owners have heard it. He told me he had told his wife that, "You know, I'm not a sports car guy, but if I get one, it would be THAT right there".
I really do love my 8.....
