BTW: I will be Co-chair at this event with Albert Lazo
Joseph Regner will be the course designer
He can use some help during course set up and Albert and I can use some the day of the event. :D
Lou and John, if you're up for it... John Stoval will be expecting you

as long as someone with half a brain designs the course, and someone with the other half can oversee it in case issues arise like the last event...I'll be down. Hopefully have my alignment by then too!:-D

Well, I ran today in Novice class. What a blast. This was so much diffferent than the track day at Road Atlanta. First want to say thanks to Splan who was out there representing in STU. He took me for a ride on his 4th run. It was great to be a passenger and see the course at speed. It was also good to see how the car behaves on the course.
I ran in the last group of the day (into darkness). I was actually faster than I thought I would be. Out of 4 runs I DNF'ed on run 2 and 4. I was seeing improvements in each run and I believe I was the fastest Novice in the afternoon group. I'll have to check when they update the website.
As for how the car handled. I am still grinning if that tells you anything. I didn't think I would be sliding around so much. The car accelerated hard off the line with quite a bit of wheelspin (DSC and Traction Control were off). The shift into second broke the rear wheels loose too. Since I don't push my car hard on the street I had not experienced this type of grunt off the line before when you give it a bit of gas before releasing the clutch. The RX8 turns in nicely and can be easily controlled. When it slides it does so predictably and can be controlled via throttle and brakes. I was really surprised at the get up and go of the car. The car just leaps forward. The whole course is run in 2nd and you never run out of gear (which I understand is very desirable in an autocrosser). When you nail the throttle even after slowing down for a sharp corner the car has ample power to come out hard and can even get sideways.
I had a great time (still grinning) and especially enjoyed some time sideways through the course. This was a great way to learn more about the car's capabilities and how to control it.

Nabil, it was such a great surprise to see you out there! I had been hoping some of the atlanta 8 owners would come and be as impressed with the car's handling, braking and rpedictability. I did notice a blue 8 in the parking lot when I left (Sorry I couldn't stay) and asked Jeff Hunt (consistent first place winner/Black WRX) to introduce himself to you.
I am just out of novice and am working on my skills. I had a co-driver who placed 2nd in STU, just edged out by a few tenths of a second by a modified WRX STI. I think the 8 is more than competitive in B stock and with the racing beat add ons, VERY competitive in STU here.
My times were not what I hoped for, but I can tell I am improving every time. I was about 3 to 4 seconds behind first place.
One of my goals this year was to take the EVo school, which is this saturday, so I hope to show some improvement the day after at the next Turner autocross!

Spyder Doo,
Please feel free to come out. STU runs the last session of the day, but we may be able to coordinate all of us running together so we can more easily compare times & experiences.
Also, online registration is free and holds your place should you decide to show up.(there is a cost of $35 at Turner, though).

Leg: Hi! How are you liking AutoX with the 8?
Spiderdoo: Up until a few months ago, yes, but now you must register online first. However, registering does not commit you, just reserves a spot.

I may have to sit this one out as well, Alex. The apartment complex we moved into is now going condo, and we plan on buying so we have a bunch of stuff to get done. Plus it's the citrus nationals at moroso and I feel like a bit of drag racing.
And like Yuri, I am also broke.
