Due to my mods, if I get in, i'll be DSP. Kinda sucks when gains from mods yield almost nothing but throw you in a class with cars that do, haha.
****, if you're wait-listed already that means I need to register asap. Haven't actually done it yet. Because I'm relatively new to the scene, I just put myself in the Autox Novice group. I'm not looking to compete nationally or anything so class to me doesn't mean a whole lot. I just enjoy the thrill of it.

Well, looks like I'm wait listed too now. The last event wasn't this full so soon.

Right? I was surprised it filled up so soon. They haven't posted anything on it that I can see on social media about it being full, either. Who knows how far down the waitlist goes.

Well I got the email notification that I'm off the waitlist. Should only have to tidy up some suspension stuff and get an alignment done before hand. Might change the transmission fluid too.

1300CC, if you go to the event, what day were you planning to attend?

I just got the email this morning as well. Are you the 2010 in CSP I saw on the entry list? That makes two RX-8's total unless more come off the wait list.

I'm probably going to both.

No I'm in the STX under Novice still. Looks like we've got you with an '06, me with an '07, and someone else with a '10. So about a 1:6 ratio of RX-8's to Miatas.

It'll be a birthday weekend for a buddy of mine, so Idk if I'll make it to both. But Saturday I'll for sure be there.

I think that's actually fairly impressive for RX-8's to Miatas...since they tend to be the go to for autocross. Coming from Durham is a bit of a drive to make twice, at least it wont backup on 40 with it being the weekend (well, most likely.)

Well the course today was pretty challenging. Got to see a few GTR’s smoke some tires.

I ended up only being able to make it to the event tomorrow, wonder if the course will change, most likely if I had to guess.

Pretty big turnout?

Shout out to the velocity red that rode with me down 501 today. I've seen the car around the Roxboro area before, and it looks super clean.

Anyone in the Triangle still around? I just moved to Chapel Hill, picked up a 8, and would love to meet (in a social distanced manner) other people around here

Sorry for the slow response. I'm interested.

By the way, it has been so long since I used my RX-8 Club account that I forgot my password and I had trouble recovering it. I had to create a new account. I used to be 40thAnnivRX8 and had posted that way on this thread. I live in Fuquay-Varina and I've had an RX-8 for a little over 2 years.

The Tarheel Sports Car Club's autoX events are great ways to meet other car enthusiasts and show off some driving skills. I hope they resume events this year because I'd love to have a few other rotaries show up. Only had one other at the Danville Airport event in 2019.

Are there any RDU area car enthusiast events going on that you guys know of?

I don't really have any outlets to develop my driving skills and I probably wouldn't be much competition in an autoX event. I just pulled up the web page of the Tarheel Sports Car Club and I'll check it out. I guess I'm a little concerned that most sports car enthusiasts might consider RX-8s a joke. It'd be nice to get together with a few folks who "get it" about rotaries in general and RX-8s in particular. It's now been 10 years since the last new RX-8s were sold in the North American market. The numbers of us still driving an 8 are shrinking every day.

I have a couple of other friends with sports cars. I'll monitor Tarheel Sports Car Club events and maybe I can convince them to join the fun.

Eh, you never know 'til you try. My roommate at the time had a genesis coupe, so of course we'd talk **** about who's car was faster, who's the better driver, etc. We did autoX as novices to prove it out, and of course we stuck with it after because it's so much fun. It made me fall in love with the RX-8 all over again. I'm not trying to shill or anything, because I legit had a great time with the THSCC, and they make novices feel welcome and included. Especially when they have the weekend learning events just for novices looking to learn some stuff. Anyways, if nothing else get's taken from this, it's a cheap fun way to put your RX-8 to the test.

If you've got any other ideas about meetup locations or whatever, I'm currently living in Wilmington, but I'd make the drive.

I'd like to give a try. I'll keep an eye out for the novice opportunities THSCC at check it out. I see that they have a meeting in Durham on March 10. I might go.

By the way, I had a week in the mountains of NC in late October, early November and I drove the Rattler, the Diamondback, and the Devil's Whip. Now THAT was fun, but I caught each of them with no traffic. I wasn't near the Tail of the Dragon, so I haven't done that one yet.

Rx-8

Oh man these all sound really exciting! For me, I've gone to the Cars and Coffee up in Morrisville last weekend that was fun. There were five rotaries out (1 RX-7 of each gen, my RX-8, and a black R3) of like 150+ cars lol so we're definitely a rare breed. Have also been doing the enduro kart races at Rush Hour to get my speed fix.

Would be cool to have a little RX-8 gathering, I'm personally hoping to hit up the mountain roads and VIR for the car's first track session once the weather warms up. Keep me posted what you guys end up planning!

If anyone here is interested, we're planning an unofficial Tail of the Dragon get together for Sept 25. Good opportunity for some twisty road fun and meet other RX-8 drivers in the area.
